Jaws: The Revenge OR Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (Which Is Worse?)

I decided to start a potentially humorous thread for this for a couple of reasons. . .

Both of these movies first installments are considered groundbreaking classics now, and the second installments are still given praise by many.

Both of these franchises started in the wild and free disco era of the mid to late 70's and both of them gave us their fourth and final installments (excluding SR) twenty years ago in 1987.

Both movies gave us some of the worst special effects EVER.

Most of us agree that Superman III and Jaws III (AKA Jaws 3-D) were less than desirable, but the fourth installments reached new levels of "badness".

Also, let's not forget that both movies starred Academy Award level actors (Gene Hackman and Michael Caine).

So go for it. Which one was worse in 1987?

 

I've never watched Jaws: The Revenge. I've only seen a little of Superman IV which from what I saw I didn't like.

 

Ouch. I've seen both repeatedly. I'd have to say that Jaws IV isn't as cheesy as Superman IV. So I say Superman IV, but barely.

 

I was just a kid when these movies came out. At the time I thought they were pretty cool. A shark who's seeking revenge? It could happen. Superman destroying all the nukes? About time.

It is only with time and gained wisdom that I look back on these films and just cry.

 

Jaws 4 was worse than Superman 4, but still better than Superman 3. Jaws 3 I remember fondly, simply because it was in 3D, and I saw it at the theater as a lad.

 

Jaws: The Revenge was much, much worse. Probably one of the top 10 Worst Movies Ever Made. Superman IV is in the Top 20 Worst Movies Ever Made.

 

The only reason I own Supes III and IV are because of the 14 disc set. You start the series off good and this is what you end up with. I don't know which is worse. But then there's Batman and Robin also a fourth installment.

 

i have III and IV for that same reason as well. the special features and everything else was too good to pass up in that 14 disc set

 

I have one quote that should settle this debate.

Shark: "ROOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR!"

 

lol, I love when the shark bursts through the water and emits a mighty lion's roar!

 

Never seen Super Man 4, but have seen Jaws 4 a couple times, and it is pretty bad. I love it how the shark is always swimming with its mouth open, not to mention great whites never go to warm waters,which is even said in the movie.

 

I'm embarrased to say that I've noticed a major difference to the ending of "Jaws: The Revenge" from the theatrical release to the Universal DVD. In the theatrical release, Lorraine Gary stabs Jaws with the front of the boat. You see the boat's bow plunge through this cheesy claymation shark, with blood squirting out the other side. Jaws then sinks. In the DVD, the moment he gets stabbed, a little toy shark blows up from several angles. It's horrible.

Good thread, JediPrettyBoy. Really hard to say which movie is worse.

 

My vote's with "Jaws: The Revenge". At least I can enjoy "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace" in a rather silly manner. (And it doesn't hurt that my favoritism as a comic fan leaks through.)

 

Id have to say jaws4 because superman4 is based on a comic book and can therfore get away with sillyness while jaws4 with roars and revenge seeking just suck but it gave a couple of jumps and scares. Both being in the top 20 worst sequals ever made.
