OKay so im totally "nerding" it right now. Im re-reading Path Of Desturction, because i love it, and i was thinking about both the Jedi and the Sith (Codes) and how they would apply in real life. I feel like when being realistic about things, a Sith stae of mind would be better. Also, as much as ive thought about it, i think that overall Jacen will not be able to balance "light" and "dark". For him to fully embrace the Sith, hes gonna have to rely on passion and emotions more than peace, harmony and serenity, and all that good stuff. Its sad cause i dont want to see Jacen get all withered and old since the Sith is more destructive to ur body and all. Also, so lets the JEDI would be equivilant to...Buddhists (monks, tibetans) or another Eastern religion like Taoism.....what would the Sith equivilant be....???

The Sith Code would most closely resemble be LeVay Satanism, though the analogy is not exact.

As much as this may be interesting, let's try and stay away from the real-world religions please. In many cases it's not a joke to people and can devolve very quickly...

Hasn't the Jedi philosophy been described as "religions greatest hits"? There are certainly no direct comparisons to any real-world religion, although the monastic life style of the Jedi is reminiscent of Buddhist priests...

Exactly. Jediism borrows quite freely from all the major religions. It's possible to get whatever you want out of it, and that's why these kinds of discussions end in religious fights quite frequently.

    QFT.

It's better to avoid topics about religion, since some people just don't know when to stop.
I remember once seeing a joking thread on another board, it asked what would happen if Vader fought Jesus. Normaly, vs. topics are usually ignored by most people, but as soon as religion was mentioned, it ignited a flame war.

I am a pretty big fan of Objectivism a la Ayn Rand, and the Sith Code plays into that Philosophy a lot better than the Jedi Code would. Objectivism basically says that the great virtue in life is selfishness...obviously the antithesis of the Jedi Code and much in agreement with the Sith Code.

Of course, any objectivist would be aghast at the actions of the Sith. One of the main tenants of the Philosophy is that you should only be selfish to the point of not directly harming any other sentient being - with physical violence or murder being the worst. Of course, the Sith Code doesn't say "Kill everyone" but it sure seems to be pretty common amongst the Sith.

Well, I dunno about real counterparts, but as far as applying their philosophies on a real physical aspects, as in:

Sith: Use your anger and such to strengthen

Jedi: Be at peace and use that as a strength

in that respect, it's a lot more rewarding to have a Jedi mindset, and although the Sith mindset is physically more efficent sometimes, it doesn't feel so, it feels painful normally.

Yes, I know it's weird, but whenever you get bored while your doing a sport and start getting tired, you come up with interesting ways of getting your energies back, but anyways....

LeVey Satanism, Crowley mysticism, Nietzchian philosophy, and objectivism usually all stop at hurting people. The Sith basically jumble together all of these 'anti-religion' movements and then add in Social Darwinism along with Primitvism. I.e. that mankind isn't seperate from nature and are violent/brutal animals.

Actually, strangely, Darth Krayt and Darth Vader seem to be very similar to taking a Legalist standpoint from China. They acknowledge that mankind is fundamentally cruel and selfish but they believe that a strict enforcement of the laws with the threat of overwhelming force can keep mankind stable.

Ironically, with the exception of Legalism, all of the above are essentially counter-culture philosophies.

Darth Revan is oddly not a philosopher of the Sith at all but simply a strict Utilitarian. The galaxy required a massive military build up to survive the onslaught of the Sith threat that he foresaw (the threat possibly being him) which required him to conquer everything in order to do it. In this respect, he along with Krayt and Vader are failing to get what being a Sith is all about.
