In the Phantom Menace, there were 10000 Jedi. But by the time of Attack of the Clones, how many Jedi are there? How many are left by the time of Revenge of the Sith?

How many Jedi die during the Jedi Purge after Order 66 is initiaed?

They're was around the same number of jedi at the begining of AOtC as their was in TPm. Out of the 212 jedi sent to Genosis 186 were killed in that battle alone. Many were killed off in the war with some battles having comparable jedi causualties as geonisis.
heres a list of all the jedi confirmed dead during order 66 itself(as seen in ROTS the movie and the novelization and video game) not the comic because Quinlan Vos may have survived,as his existance is know canon thanks to a single line in the film.

    Aayla Secura- killed on Felucia
    Agen kolar- killed by Palpatin
    Bene- killed in Temple attack
    Bariss Offee- Killed on Felucia
Butler Swan(asian female jedi seen in AOTC)- killed in Temple attack
Cin Drallig- killed by Darth Vader in Temple attack
Jocusta Nu- Killed by Vader in Temple attack(Rots game)
    Kit Fisto- killed by Sidious
Ki adi Mundi- killed on Mygeeto
    Luminara Unduli- Killed on Kashyyk
Mace windu- Killed by Anakin Skywalker(had not been named Vader yet) and Sidious on Coruscant
Ploo Koon- Killed over Cato Neimodia
    Saesese Tiin- Killed by Sidious
Serra kato- Killed by Vader in temple attack(rots game)
Shaak Ti- Killed by Vader in Temple attack
Stass allie- Killed by Clones on Salecumi
Whie Malrynuex- Killed by vader in temple attack(character created for Rots featured in Yoda Dark Renedvous novel, who fulfilled his own prophecy of being killed by another jedi)
Zett Jukasa- the little jumping jedi was killed in front of Bail organa during the temple attack.

Serra Katos character may not be canon as she was created for the Rots game as a mini boss character. Jocasta Nu death is shown only in the game but because she is a canon character and a librarian not an active jedi its most likely she died in temple attack.
Whie is a canon character as he was cast and briefly seen in the hologram obiwan watches.Quinlan Vos was shown apparently vaporized by a Juggernaut on Boz Pity in the Graphic novel, and they almost shot his death for the film but didn't for unknown reasons, he may survive in the comics or may be the main character of one of the upcoming TV series, or he may be dead.He was orginally a comics character, but that thanks to Obiwans line to Anakin in the briefing room he now official exists.

Were Padawans included as some of the 10000 Jedi?

They are Jedi and the older padawans(think Obi in TPm and Anakin in AOTC) participate in the war. For instance Anakin Held the rank of LT. and the Commander(being Second in Command of the the Open Circle fleet and the corresponding Clonetrooper units under General Obiwan Kenobi) after Genosis according to the EU but after he is given the rank of Jedi Knight 9 months before ROTS he is promoted to General. Jedi Padawans appear to hold a place in between the Clone Commanders and their Masters who are the Generals.

Apparently they shot 5 different versions(unlike Vos whom they didn't shoot at all) of the scene and lucas wasn't happy with any of them(Making of ROTS book).

By the time of Revenge of the Sith, there was probably about 1000 or so Jedi left, and by the end of the movie, only Yoda and Obi Wan and a few others survive.

10000 Jedi at the start of TPM? What's the source on that?

Kind of off topic here but aaronkenobi said that Shaak Ti was Killed by Vader in temple

Yes, but it was cut, so - no.

I find it hard to believe that the Jedi would sustain 90% casualties throughout only 3 years of war. Even Palpatine's new Empire would be hard-pressed to inflict that much damage.

I'm pretty sure that there is a blog on Official Site that has a list of Jedi that survived Order 66. As I recall there was about 30.

As far as I know of Bultar Swan wasn't said or shown being killed in the ROTS movie, videogame, novel, or graphic novel but she probably did die anyway. Even Piell could still be alive. I want to see (a) completely new Jedi in the upcoming Star Wars Live Action TV Series if any are in it at all.

There had to be at least a thousand Jedi left after ROTS, Vader probably hunts them down.

No there was probably less than a thousand Jedi left but Darth Vader did help hunt down the remaining Jedi.

No a lot of Jedi were around Clones in ROTS fighting in the Clone Wars and probably only some were not around Clones or escaped like Yoda and Obi-Wan.

TPM Visual Dictionary I believe. The AOTC Visual Dictionary states that they are down to 9000 by that time. It's a shame we don't have a number for how many Jedi were left at the start of ROTS.

not the comic because Quinlan Vos may have survived,as his existance is know canon thanks to a single line in the film.

Well, in the comice, Vos's final panel shows him being surronded and absorbed by an explosion. The black ink used for his figure is blurred by the yellow used to show the explosion. Typical comic technique to show death. Quinlan Vos is dead, which is a good thing.

No, Quinlan survived the explosion. He ain't looking to good, but his final fate will be shown in Republic #81-83.

And why do you think it is a good thing that he is "dead"?

Because I'm tired of angst ridden, anti-hero, Dark Side straddling characters created by lackluster EU writers. If the EU wants to create it's own golden boy fine, but be original. The PT already had an angst ridden, anti-hero, Dark Side straddling character. His name is Anakin Skywalker.

The character of Vos is unoriginal, uninspired, and about as interesting to read about as it is to read a pamphlet on herpes. Not to mention the way he is drawn. Long hair and tattoos. Wow! Just like every other angst ridden anti-hero in all the other SciFi franchises. That's why.

JediMasterGuff is right and besides would you like to see Quinlan Vos in the upcoming Star Wars Live Action TV Series or a completely new Jedi character?
