Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast - It's Out! (Outcast Spoilers)

Jedi Outcast is on shelves. This game looks freaking unbelieveable. I'll comment on some of the new character and story elements from it...
Characters:

Friends -
Both Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian make appearances. Of course Jan Ors is in the game as well (and

Reelo - crooked, bloated Rodian who tries to shoot down the Lady Luck.

The Reborn Jedi - Real Bad-asses. They come in all sorts of varieties (levels). There's blue and orange cloaked Reborn. There's the grey/silver Reborn Warriors, the green Reborn Fencers, and the red Reborn Bosses. They all get to carry lightsabers and the try to gang Kyle.

Tavion - She's the evil chick everyone was engaging in the wild speculation about so long ago when her's one one of the first pictures released. Tavion is Desann's partner in crime. One mean beyotch.

Imperial Forces (Called Imperial Remnant)
Admiral Galak Fyyar - Once a trusted weapon scientist reporting directly to the Emperor (anyone think the Emperor was driven to insanity because of having to deal with the sheer number of people who reported directly to him), Chancellor Galak Fyyar was given his honorary title fir his dedicated service to the Empire.

Swamp Troopers - Used to attack the Jedi Academy, they're the perfect forces to assult swamp environments. They have exceptional camoflauge. Seems like the Empire learned that bright white isn't the best possible camoflauge for scouts.

Shadow Troopers - Galak Fyyar's technical masterpieces, the Shadow Troopers have been artifically imbued with the Force. They use invisibility powers to remain cloaked until they strike.

Desann - Reptilloid alien saber-wielding Force monstrosity.

Story Elements -
The Empire: The Empire is seemingly dead. There are many, many things which paint the Imperial Remnant as that - the Imperial Remnant, something different from the Empire. Take the following from Galak's bio:
"The collapse of the Empire did little to change his experiments..."[/u]And from the Imperial Officers' bio (the most damning):
"Clad in the formal uniform of the Empire they once served..."
Perhaps, it's just that Fyyar's forces have broken off and have called themselves the Imperial Remnant as some sort of warlord government wholly seperate from the still-in-placce Empire, which has been called the Imperial Remnant. That is, maybe like with the EMperor Reborn, there's again a dual-Imperial government - the real one which ends up being seen in NJO, and the various Empire-wannabe's like Galak's which is similar to Thrawn's irrelevent "imperial forces," etc. when the Emperor was on Byss. Don't know what it all means, but I'm going to be looking into it some more, since I've always been interested in the operational aspects of the Empire and Rebellion/Alliance/NR.

The main problem, Val is that the Kyle Katarn Books Discussion Thread does not have "spoilers" on it Val. There's no reason a new game is any different from a new book. There are elements which may spoil the game for people who may wish to find them out by playing it normally.

I didn't want to mess anyone up, therefore a JO-specific spoiler thread as opposed to the more general Katarn Books discussion thread.

The first plot twist of the game was COMPLETELY unexpected

I expected Kyle to have 9/10 kids with his virile wife by NJO

Am I the only one who remembered the long ago rumor that Outcast would have a prequel trilogy connection? Well, is it true? Has anyone seen anything connected with the prequel movies?

Bit dissapointed the Jedi were just previously used heads. Would have liked some variety.

 

Eh... cant have everything. All I need now is a better video card. The game is compatable with my chipset, but it is way too slow.

The lightsaber rocks! Why, i've always wanted one...shame it does not cut things though .

If i'm not mistaken Outcast takes place 8 years after ROTJ roughly placing it during the time of Darksaber.

 

If thats the case... than G12, you may have your answere to your Remnant question. Lets say, if it happens after Darksaber, we didn't hear from the Empire really after that until SotP when the Remnant was an actual name. Sooooo.... we could actually have the correct name.

Wahoo! I'm so glad I just got a new computer that meets (actually, exceeds) all of those requirements !

 

Ya... I highly recommend that you have a video card with more than 16 megs of ram. Mine is really slow even on the lowest video settings.

Sweet! Good thing I got a new card for Christmas though.

 

I just need a graphics card. I have some sad one that came standard with my CPU. I found a good deal on a GeForce 2, hopefully I will be able to buy it soon. Kinda low on money.

Game sounds awesome. Can't wait to experiance the much talked about story.

 

I brought this up in the Main Thread, I'll redundantly bring it up here.

The game actually gives two dates for the game's occurance.

In one place it says 8 years after endor.

In another place it says 9 years after events of Jedi Knight.

Yet still in another place it considers Mysteries of the sith to be part of JK(so it could easily mean 9 years after MOTS as anything else).

 

Ok... that would make sense. Maybe LA is just confused on why Jedi Knight took place. ?
