I couldn't help but notice (what I think) is a major similaraty between the A-Wing and Jedi Starfighter! Same colors and basic shape.

I thought that maybe (in SW continuity) the A-Wing model was taken by engineers who modified a Jedi Starfighter, thus creating the A-Wing, or maybe the Jedi Starfighter just the predecessor of the A-Wing?

    Any other thoughts?

According to GL, it´s designed to resemble Imperial star destroyers, because their design originated in the Jedi starfighter.

    Why don't A-wings have astro-mech droids?

Like someone said earlier, the Jedi Starfighter was the predecessor of the Star Destroyer, at least in shape. There was a documentary about this in the Episode II DVD, in the online documentaries section. Wasn't the A-Wing also created by an independent design firm or something, so it wouldn't be related to the A-Wing. I would bet that all memory of the Jedi Starfighters would have been wiped from the universe by the time of the X-Wing, judging by the fact that Luke had no knowledge of what a Jedi was, and the cantina patrons barely noticed the significance of Ben using a lightsaber, and how there was such little mention of the Jedi in any of the scenes involving the rebels, and if you remember the subject of the beginning of this long, run-on sentence, the A-Wing was a later development than the X-Wing, and so there would be little or no knowledge of what their design was similar to.

I think Luke did vaguely know what a Jedi was, but otherwise, I agree. There may have been some rebels who thought the Jedi were traitors of the Old Republic, just as the Empire had led everyone to believe.

Hmm... interesting... I always thought that the ships the clones were getting into at the end of EP2 were the Star Destroyer's predecessors.

Ok, now I'm confused! If the Jedi Starfighters are the predecessor to the Star Destroyers, then how are the ships at the end of EP2 also the predecessors?

actually the Jedi Starfighter was to show the evolution to angular ships of the empire. Namely, the Star Destroyer.

    A-Wing
the generalized name of the Dodonna/Blissex RZ-1 Starfighter. It is a flat, one-man, wedged-shaped snub fighter built for the Alliance after the lost of the Hoth base and prior to the Battle of Endor. The A-Wing was designed, as it's name implies, by Jan Dodonna and Walex Blissex. Because the Alliance was short on funds, most A-Wings were custom-built in private shops.

So, no, the A-wing is not based on the Jedi Starfighter.
