This topic came to me when I was writing up some characterization for an Rpg I'm currently in and thought of the Jedi Trials before someone quicks to point out that about the Trials being in the films in some form or another I know that. I want to discuss the Trials of the Jedi, that we have heard, or read about and what they consist of, would it have been interested to see in it the films, not necessarily the main characters I'm talking about but to see it and what it comprises and see the Inner workings of how Jedi evolve from Padawan to Knight or Knight to Master.

And the other thing is, what does a Sith Trial consist of, how did Sidious trial Dooku to become his Sith apprentice, and how does Sidious come up with their Sith names, in my personal opinion i always think it was a calling from the Force or the Darkside that he names them so thats my view on it, unless there is an official info in regards to it.

And finally Lightsaber construction, that should of been in the films, from either the Sith or Jedi, i wanted to see that and what it entails for either side. And who would you of liked to see construct their respective Lightsabers.

    Let the discussions begin.

The Sith Trials are, apparently, born from someone being called to display an utter rejection of someone or something extremely important to them in the pursuit of greater power. Exar Kun was called to reject the Jedi Way and later murder Vodo Baas (bonus props for killing Freedon Nadd his mentor), Dessel had to murder Hasim his lightsaber instructor, Darth Vader rejected the Jedi way and later murdered Padme, Ulic Qel Droma rejected Nomi Sunrider, and Dooku had to murder his friend Sifo-Dyas.

Darth Maul was required to synthesize a red crystal with his hate and construct his Double bladed lightsaber at the end of his training.

His 'inaugural mission' was to wipe out Black Sun to prove his worthiness.

Darth Maul also had to attempt to kill Darth Sidious as a part of his final trial, which, being that Sidious was the only being Maul, er... liked? Respected? Whatever... links it all back to the 'let go of what you value for power/hate' thing...

Well I think it's more of a philisophical thing.

Sure, you're learning all of these nifty things with your body and mind, but isn't it when something clicks? Achieving enlightenment either through peace or rage?

For a Jedi it's realizing that your training is never complete, there's an infinite universe with infinite possibilities to learn from. Which is why the original Jedi order suffered, because they thought they were at the apex of knowledge.

For a Sith, it's realizing that as much as you want power, as much as you want to be the master. You need the master to attain that power, so you do what you need to until the master makes a mistake and completes your training. Like that idiot Plagueis.

"HI PALPYTEEN, LOL DIZ SECRIT 2 POWAH!!1 CANT TRANE U NO MOAR; DIZ SRS BIZNZZ. I CAN HAS SLEAPZ NAW, DON HURTZ ME PLEEZ KTHXBAI!!1"

they kind of gave an overview of the jedi trials in the Clone Wars cartoon. I dont remember exactly, but i recall there was a trial of courage, of the flesh, and the final trial was "The Mirror" which is what Luke underwent in the Darkside Cave on Daobah and Anniken had in the cave non nelvaan

The Jedi trials seem like they may be different for each Jedi. I think with Anakin and the Mirror trial...that was the thing that the Masters were most concerned about with him. During his travels with Obi-Wan, Anakin obviously proved that his ability to use the force and wield a light saber was on par with what a Jedi Knight should be. His way of thinking really was not. Other Jedi may travel around and have an excellent grasp of what it means to be a Jedi but lack the skills. I'd assume in their case their masters will wait until they "Break out" and give themselves over to the force enough to reach their potential and do some amazing things.

I'm thinking that with the Sith, it's all about the hate. It can be on a rather ambiguous level...as in there is something going on in the galaxy right now that you hate so much that you will kill an innocent person to stop it. Dooku hated the corruption in the Senate enough to kill Sifo Dyas. Anakin hated the fact that Padme was going to die so much that he killed Mace (Well...helped anyway) and killed all the Jedi in the Temple. Qel-Droma hated himself enough for letting Arca die that he was willing to kill thousands. Maul hated the Jedi....Jacen hates people who think different than him...

I would think of the Sith trials as a twisted version of Jedi trials. That's sort of their MO. Everything they do is a twisted version of their Jedi origins.

Take Lumiya's empahsis on Jacen being willing to sacrifice for the greater good... it was to sacrifice others to empower himself... while the Jedi are willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good.
