While still a Christian and largely believing Jedi in real life to be simply stating it as an alternative for a census, I personally have always felt that the spiritual lessons of the Star Wars trilogy are more encouraging to many children than Sunday School. I won't lie and say that my experiences with Star Wars didn't encourage me to study Eastern religions and look at my own faith in a different way.

What the biggest lesson from Star Wars for me is the universalism of faith that the Force represents that triumphs over the personalist exclusivism that many faiths (in my mind) erroneously adopt.

It is a universal God/Faith that has many ways of interpreting it. Not all equally valid but certainly more than one and the minute differences between various branches are ignorable.

I also found as a child the "luminous beings" line made clear the idea of a soul far better than any church I attended that primarily focuses on behavior than spiritual questions of reality honestly. The lack of talking about metaphysics is one of the great lacks in today's society.

I have to say that Charlemagne19 comes pretty close to nailing my feelings on the matter. I'll go one further and state that many elements of Jedi philosophy have been incorporated into my overall religious/spiritual views. I think that there are some important lessons one can learn from the Jedi faith, such as:

--The deep and not always immediately apparent connection we share with all living things. What affects one of us, affects us all--sometimes in very subtle ways, but also in very real ones.

--From this comes the need for and the value of compassion for others. A basic unconditional love and respect for other people is a powerful and beneficial thing that can have profound effects.

--There is also a lot to be found regarding the importance of faith. Sometimes, when things seem their worst and when the odds against us seem insurmountable, it is necessary to let go of everything and keep on going, knowing that if we simply let things work out the way they must, then they will.

There are many more such valuable things to be learned from the Jedi way--these are just a few that immediately come to mind. An important tenet of my own personal belief system is that all religions contain significant lessons to be learned--each one reveals its own particular facets of a greater truth. Part of wisdom is learning to see these facets of truth for what they are.

I'm actually Jewish, and the Jedi's philosophies are quite close to ours, so I suppose one could say I'm Jedi/Jewish.
