Jinn and Kenobi to the rescue

“She is up to some mischief Tarko,” Jedimaster Gavin Maurishka – Grease to all his friends – whispered with a big smile on his face when he saw the door of the elevator opening to reveal Siri Tachi.

“But what?” Tarko followed his master out of the elevator. “I don't see her master.”

“We will see. The transport needs an overhaul after that trip to Varanko. You know sea, sand and a spaceport based near a harbor is always trouble. And Spanners and Itsi are there.”

“Survive. Get out!”

“You have no idea what this can do.”

“That's O-Lenge and Itsi.” Tarko ran towards the transport, up the ramp and unerringly to the place where the cry had originated, the engine-compartment. Observing he saw three adults trying to deal with the mess. The left leg of Aiden O-Lenge – Spanners for all who know him as a friend – was caught in the sparks flying between the two plates of the capacitator. Master Adi Gallia and pilot Yorana Kowal were holding the plates as far away as possible using the Force. Itsi was keeping his distance and busy with isolating gloves.

“I can hold this stable,” pilot Kowal huffed. “Do as I told you and grab him after I count.”

“But they told,” Adi Gallia started.

“Arguing with her is no use,” Tomy Itsi grumbled. “Getting Spanners out and away as soon as possible will have her satisfied.”

“Ah padawan Sanek. You can help us.”

Tarko grabbed a second pair of isolating gloves, donned them and waited.

“One.”

Tarko took the right hand of Spanners and saw Itsi getting the left one.

“Two.”

Adi was ready.

“Three.”

Tarko and Itsi, Force-pushed by Adi Gallia and Yorana Kowal jumped back with Spanners as fast as possible, through the door of the engine-compartment. The women followed.

The door closed.

A loud boom.

“That was the end of the capacitator and engine.” Tomy Itsi observed.

“And my leg,” Spanners was able to mask the pain with the Force but unable to keep it from moving. “It's there but I will never use it. It's filled with creepy crawlies.”

“Nerves getting a beating you mean?” Tarko saw the leg moving with spasms. “The healers will help you. And they are here with a hoverchair for you. Let's get you to the healers.”

Adi Gallia and Yorana Kowal floated Spanners on the chair.

“But the engine.” Spanners argued. “I am the e...”

“Expert? Not now Aiden. We will get a new part.” Gavin Maurishka said. “Tomy and pilot Kowal will help me and you padawan” he pauzed for more impact “get Spanners as soon as possible to the healers before he begins to argue more about the engine.”

“Yes master.” Tarko began to push th hoverchair with a now silent technician towards the elevator. He was followed by Adi Gallia.

“Have a speedy recovery,” Adi Gallia said. “I have to report to the council.” She resumed her ride with a smile on her face. Her padawan was up to some mischief involving another padawan and a master.

“He met a creepy capacitator.” Tarko indicated Spanners when he steered the hoverchair past the receptionist. “Who is available?”

“Master Maerhin,” Vin Nawarra, the receptionist answered. “Ah here he is.”

“Padawan.” Aaqu Maerhin halted before the two. “I will take him to my treatment-room. You can go with me or go back to your master.”

“This leg will never work again.” Spanners looked up showing the pain in his eyes. “I am done with it. Get the creepy crawlies silent and I will be satisfied.”

“Master O-Lenge,” Aaqu put a hand on the twitching leg. “You will regain the full use of it. I will inform your friends after I have you in one of the rooms. And I have an idea. Master Jinn is in room number nine of the surgery wing and he can be very persuasive to get you on your feet.”

“I will go back to my master” Tarko released the guidance-bar.

“The engine is as good as new.” Gavin Maurishka closed the door of the engine-compartment and walked with Tomy and Tarko towards the ramp of the transport.

Four hours of work by the three – assisted by pilot Kowal until she had to leave with another transport – had done the job.

“And I like the colour of the engine.” Tarko had a smile on his face. “We managed to clean the entire compartment and now it is again red and white and not reddish tainted with black and yellow. And there is master Maerhin with news about Spanners.”

“Not good I am afraid.” Aaqu stood before the three. “Spanners refuses to walk. I went with him to room nine to install him there with Master Jinn but to my great annoyance Jinn was gone and a grate to the crawlduct was open.”

“Padawan Tachi.” Tarko nodded. “That was the mischief she was planning. Helping padawan Kenobi to get master Jinn out of the healers' ward as soon as possible.”

“Master Jinn will be back in his apartment and that's alright with me.” Aaqu had a thoughtful look on his face. “But I need him and padawan Kenobi to get Spanners back on his feet. I will ask them.”



Three days later.

“Grease, Tarko it is no use.” Spanners was hopping on his right leg assisted by the two and observed by healer Maerhin who had an enigmatic smile on his face. “Get me back in that hoverchair. The left leg simply refuses. The wiring is damaged and beyond repair.”

“Your leg is not an engine.” Grease was feeling his age and guided the reluctant engineer back to his hoverchair.

“The repair-crew is coming.” Tarko heard the very silent footsteps coming to a halt.

The door to room nine opened.

“Now we have to come to a room we don't like at all.” Obi-Wan Kenobi was the first to enter.

“But it is for a good cause padawan.” Qui-Gon Jinn followed and halted before the hoverchair with the engineer. “Master O-Lenge will walk again.” He knelt down, gripping the left leg in his hands and bowed his head.

Obi-Wan put his left hand on the red hair of Spanners, his right hand on the head of his master and closed his eyes, forming a union with the two.

Spanners closed his eyes.

Tarko felt the power, so different from his powers.

Aaqu began to smile when he saw Spanners opening his eyes, brilliance shining into them.

“I can go.” Spanners stood up, assisted by Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. “You can release me. I am good.”

Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan let go.

Spanners headed to the door.

“A moment master O-Lenge. Back to that bed.” Aaqu intercepted him. “I have to give you a final examination.”

“But.” Spanners avoided the healer.

“He will be going and we are going now.” Qui-Gon hurried to the door.

“We are leaving room number nine,” Obi-Wan turned his head giving a wink with his left eye before disappearing.

“Ah whatever, go back to your precious engines.” Aaqu shrugged with his shoulders. “No one likes room number nine. Let's go.”

“You are invited to our party tonight.” Spanners gave Aaqu a hand and left the room.

“Hmm, nice for my old bones.” Grease followed Spanners.

“A BBQ party. I like that.” Tarko was the last to leave the room.

Excelent help from Jinn and Kenobi. Spanners got his leg working again and a renewed good mood.

 

They should have joined the medical corps instead of the Jedi order.

Anyway, I had to leave a small comment since I was peeking inside the fanfic thread during my lunch break at work today.

 

Very nice story - hopefully Tarko will have more faith in the future.

 

I love to see Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan save the day!

 

Whew, a close call there! I'm glad that everyone was able to keep Spanners from being hurt any worse than he was; that sounds like quite the scary accident. And it is of course the shifty troublemaking pair of Jinn and Kenobi with their sneaking-out-of-the-hospital hijinks that end up making an appearance after all to help Spanners with his leg. (Even though he had entirely given up on it himself, poor guy! Somehow I get the feeling that Spanners is even further up the list of Least Favorite Patients than some of the more famous names that appear in this tale.) I'm glad that it all ended well, and with barbecue to boot!

 

You need those two to help.

Great job! That's definitely a nasty injury for Spanners. I'm glad the group was able to save him and get him to the healers. I like how Qui-Gon's connection to the Living Force was able to help heal Spanners (whether it was physical healing in his leg, mental healing regarding his belief of being able to use the leg again, or both), and I'm sure it was a good learning experience for Padawan Kenobi as well. A party is definitely a good way to celebrate Spanners being better.
