Headcanon accepted, Garm Bel Iblis is Han Solo's true father! A true selfmade man that worked himself up the ladder from factory worker building YT's to Senator for the Corellian Sector after he tragically lost his boy and never found him!
Does this mean Mount Sorrow could appear in Andor? I feel like having him finally overcome his depression and work for the fledgling Rebellion would add a lot of depth to his character.
Indeed. Back in MY DAY, the EU was willing to take risks like this, and it paid off. Just look at Star Wars Galaxies: Ruins of Dantooine. Any EU fan who knows what their talking about would be hard-pressed to find a better novel in the whole EU than it.
Gilroy talks about stuff. I think it's kinda funny that Tony Gilroy was the rewrite/reshoot on Rogue One and it turns out great, and he wasn't initially announced as the Cassian Andor showrunner (the Americans person Stephen Schiff was) but now it's Tony Gilroy again, it's like whenever he thinks he's out they pull him back in and then he goes all for it Spoiler He makes a quote about canon although I'm not too fussed about it (although I do kinda see the Rebels episode with the formation of the Rebellion and the K-2SO / Cassian origin being overridden). But eh, it's vague and I don't mind and he's mostly talking about making all this stuff work together. "Gilroy on Rebels: “Within Star Wars, within Wookiepedia, there’s got to be four or five levels of canon. There’s film canon, cartoon canon, fan-fiction canon and all these different things - and for the larger issues we deal with [Star Wars Lore Advisor - yes, that’s his official job title!] Pablo Hidalgo.”"
The Disney plus expanded clip today is truly wonderful. And... Spoiler the decision to give Cassian a Bryar Pistol is a more nerdy, detail-oriented tribute to legends than I could have imagined.
So it looks like Spoiler according to the Andor special clip they will have Andor's father die during the Imperial era instead of the Clone Wars. Looks like he will still die in the same way though. Makes sense that they would change it to the Empire killing him to give Cassian a stronger incentive for fighting them.
I dunno, I think part of the point is that for people like Cassian, there's not much difference. When Cassian says he's been fighting this war since he was a kid, he means the Clone Wars Republic that was becoming the Empire.
I just need context for the "6 years old!" line from R1, should probably be elaborated on in the show who exactly he was fighting at six. I noticed the ads say "From the Creators of Rogue One" which seems to be a bit off. the original R1 creative team aren't involved for all I can see, this is by the fellow who came in and reshot a bunch of Rogue One but I don't think it can fit on a title card. Unless they just generally mean "creators of Rogue One" to be LFL. Anyway I usually don't rewatch things set after the timeline of the show but definitely giving Rogue One a proper rewatch this weekend. although I've seen in on TV constantly on Showcase but it's in crummy 720p cropped cable image cut up with ad breaks so I guess 4K Disney Plus is the better viewing experience.
Watched the first two episodes Spoiler How did the Corporate guy know he was looking for someone from Cannari I know he spotted the ship but how did he know the male was from there. Seems kind of important
Spoiler Cassian mentioned he was looking for his sister from Kenari to the madame at the brothel. She gave a statement that the two guards were hassling a man, and included that detail in her report. We see them bring her in later to make an ID on Cassian's old holo.
Okay so... Spoiler a self-contained three-episode introduction arc. We get an idea of who Cassian Andor is as of BBY 5 (interesting calendar idea), it seems he has a reputation and it clearly gave Maava gray hairs (Fiona Shaw clearly was enjoying herself, particularly in the flashback scenes), annoyed his friends to an extent and even crosses those who were not friends. If it weren't for Syril Kahn desiring to bring him to justice for the accidental murder of one corrupt officer and the deliberate one of the another, he likely would never have ended up fleeing. The Kenari backstory is even fascinating. Clearly the Fest backstory maybe perhaps a facade to hide him. I'm rather surprised that the Republic would go full retribution on the tribe people there (but judging from the uniforms, safe to say it was a dark project of Sith origin). Luthen Rael fascinates me. He's there from the end of Episode 1 but we don't know much of him yet and what he's really up to yet. But I'm fascinated to see what his backstory will be (Episode 4 has Mon Mothma doesn't it?). Good start. Very self-contained. And that starship selling lot will keep the Fleet Junkies fascinated. I saw a Bestoon Legacy craft and a BTL-A4 or BTL-S3 Y-wing.
Spoiler Those Morlana corporate soldiers gave me strong Corporate Sector Espo vibes. I think I spotted a YT-2400 in that starship lot. AND that sergeant actually said "****" !!!
Spoiler I watched all three episodes, good. Seems Cassian is looking for his long lost sister after 10 years apart.
Definitely intended as a 3-part opener - and ep 3 is better than the first two by far. Spoiler It does need better villains than the Corpos, especially the charisma void that is their zealot leader. Run through a wall for him you will not. Interested to see where it goes but hoping future weekly episodes are more distinct. On the first couple the ending came out of nowhere, whereas three had a better sense of conclusion.
