    Fewer caps.

Has it ever been definitively said just who the GUARDIAN OF THE MOUNTAIN was, left at Mount Tantiss by the Emperor to gaurd his storage facility? I have heard a few rumors and such, but nothing definitive.

THe Story that I heard originated was that Joruus C'Boath was indeed the Guardian, and that as his clone insanity grew, he created two seperated and distinct personality's. The Guardian of the Mountain is who he was whenever Vader or the Emperor were around, and in that guise, he was always the obediant servant of the Empire. But during the times where he was alone at the facility, he 'became' the great Jedi Master C'boath, with all the illusions and stuff in his head about the Force and such.

And that when he either sensed via the Force that Vader and the Emperor were dead, that he had that 'battle against the Guardian', with his 'Joruus' personality winning out.

Is that the generally accepted premise of what happened?

Yup, as far as I ever heard, that's the story. :)

I coulda sworn that C'Baoth pointed out a crypt where the real guardian lay...

Well, I think that's just C'Baoth creating a fantasy world for himself, where he actually killed the Guardian. :)

yeah, that is what I figured. I imagine in the Crypt that he pointed too, possessed anything that was 'official' to the Guardian, like anything he was obligated to wear when the EMPEROR or Vader were on the planet.

I always assumed that the original guardian was just one of Palpatine's Dark Jedi. Then when C'baoth was cloned, then went crazy he killed the Guardian and took his place.

Joruus C'boath was an insane clone of Jedi Master Jorus C'boath. He actually believed he'd defeated the Guardian of the Mountain when in reality he was the guardian. We never actually saw what was in the crypt so for all we know he could have created the crypt after imagining he fought the guardian and then closed it while believing he'd put the remains inside. Or the crypt could have held genetic material from Palpatine himself. Or even the remains of Palpatine's Sith Master.

Is this theory talked about in any of the books or comics? I haven't heard of it before, but it does make sense.

Yeah dp4m, me too. I know he was insane and all, but I thought there was a real Guardian? Odd.

Yeah dp4m, me too. I know he was insane and all, but I thought there was a real Guardian? Odd.

And all this time I'd forgotten I knew the correct answer...

"Over the years Joruus has become somewhat confused over who he is. He does not remember that he was the Emperor's Guardian. Instead, he believes that he killed the guardian and then took control of both Mount Tantiss and the world of Wayland."

    Dark Epire Sourcebook, page 37:

C'boath was a more curious case. Thrawn was brilliant enough to realize only an insane Dark Jedi would violate the Emperor's ban ordering them all into silence years ago. While they waited in their castles for their Emperor's command, Thrawn had sought out the one who would have forgotten all such orders years ago. It was most satisfying to watch the mad Jedi's mind unravel.

The Essential Guide to Characters, entry Joruus C'boath, pages 28-29:

Joruus protected the Wayland facility known as Mount Tantiss, a secert Imperial facility used for cloning purposes and weapons storage. The storehouses were filled with plundered art treasures, Spaarti clyinders used for cloning, and a working prototype of a cloaking device. Over many years he guarded the facility, C'Boath slowly lost his mind, becoming irrevocably insane. However, it was a charismatic insanity, so it allowed him to fool even Luke Skywalker for a short time.

With his memories clouded, this C'Boath did not even remember his original mission, nor his service to the Emperor Palpatine. He served himself alone; his goal became founding a new order of Dark Jedi, trained to rule the galaxy, with himself as their master.

The Essential Guide to Planets and Moons, entry Wayland, page 193:

After landing at Mount Tantiss, Thrawn secured the help of a mad Jedi clone, Joruus C'boath. Though C'boath claimed to have killed the Emperor's guardian, there is some evidence that C'boath was the guardian.

A Guide to the Star Wars Universe, Second edition, entry Joruus C'boath, page 247:

Joruus C'boath was the clone of the famed Jedi Master Jorus C'boath. Grand Admiral Thrawn found Joruus on the planet Wayland, wehre he was guarding one of the Emperor's hidden storehouses. He was confused about his origin and past, hindered by shattered memories and periods of insanity brought on by clone madness (a malady afflicting most of the early clones, who were grown too quickly).

I'd say those sources, combined with dp4m post concerning the HttE sourcebook, confirm that he was not only the guardinan, but that he also imagined he killed the gaurdian.

Yeah, I see that now. I should have looked in the NEGtC!

I wouldn't bother with the NEGtC concerning C'boath being the guardinan. He only appears in the Appendix, on page 208 and has one sentence:

    JORUUS C'BOATH

An insane clone of the Jedi Master Jorus C'boath, Joruus assisted Grand Admiral Thrawn in waging war against the New Republic before being killed by Mara Jade on Wayland.

If you have a copy of the old EGtC, you should have checked it out. The entry for C'boath in there covers two pages.

I always thought that the guardian was a Dark Jedi and Joruus C'Boath was being cloned inside Mount Tantiss well the Dark Jedi was guarding it. Then when the clone of Joruus C'Boath was done he came out or whatever(lol) and fought the Dark Jedi and killed him.

I guess it's a good thing I looked in here and found out what really was going on.

    Thanks.

    My dreams dashed . . .

I was looking forward to a Force fight between C'baoth and the Guardian, hopefully, in Zhan's prequel book.
