Comics Kanan #12: First Blood, Epilogue: The Ties That Bind (Series Finale!!)

So that means that Rebels S1 is 5.5 years BBY???? Because I suppose that this comic happens after S1.

 

Rebels season 1 starts off in 5 BBY, but switches to 4 BBY about halfway through. The last three issues said this comic is fifteen years after the fall of the Jedi Oder (4 BBY), so I think they just made a mistake in the opening crawl for #12.

 

Love how the cover mirrors #1, but this issue will make for bittersweet reading. I wonder why Pepe Larraz (who's done an amazing job) isn't on art duties one last time?

 

I'm really not fond of the art, especially for human faces, ugh.

 

He didn't do the last 'present day' issue, either. A shame, because he's presently my favorite SW Marvel artist.

 

So ... any speculation as to what Marvel will replace this series with? I'd love something about the Grand Inquisitor, Qui-Gon or Dooku. Or all three!

Isn't Poe Dameron the replacement for it? Kanan was initially planned to be an ongoing, it's ending, and the next ongoing (Poe) starts next month.

Oh yeah ... I forgot about Poe. Well, I'm certainly excited for that one!

 

Why is nobody squeeing about the HWK cameo? Has one shown up before?

They were recanonised in Star Wars: Commander, but that black paint job is to die for. It's like Moldy Crow and Raven's Claw had a baby!

 

I am sad to see this title end. I get it. It is not Marvel's best selling Star Wars title, but it was nice getting more stories for our Rebels heroes. The past few television episodes have been really terrific and I think this title would have sold better if they were able to get it in front of younger readers and Marvel used the Star Wars Rebels title as a tie-in. Make it digest form and release new digests 2 or 3 times a year through the Scholastic Book Club.

Dark Horse wasn't able to make a go of an ongoing Clone Wars comic either.

 

Well it had its own Clone Wars era comics with Republic, way before TCW and it was brilliant.

 

So sad to have now finished this series but I gotta say this series knew how to end, only with an appearance by

Glad they're keeping her a loyal Imperial and not switching sides in the predictable cliched good-guy-joins-Rebels move.

 

Thanks, Jordan D. White for the asterisk in the novel as I was lost for a moment until that part, but happy to see everything get tied together. Maybe I'll go read A New Dawn next.

The art wasn't the greatest, but I loved the ending. It gave me chills.

 

Does anyone know whether the shuttle at the end is a new design or something from the EU? Sure looks like a Sienar/Cygnus design to me:
