I searched google for the font for quite some time now, and I just can't find it anywhere. I found some gif previews, and some gif separate characters of the font, but that won't help me much.. it would be really helpful to find the whole character set as a font file. I also found the character set on one site, where it costed $29!! Now everyone will admit, that's a little dear for a bunch of crappy curvy sticks you call letters. Anyone know, where to find the font for free? :(

    T'k you.

Surely, you don't want to write an entire text with it, it would be for a title or something, right ?

If it is, then you could just find a similar serif font, break the letters apart, and move the parts up and down yourself.

    1. Write in whatever text you have that is closest to the unbroken Miltown (Matrix logo) font. Perhaps Courier.

    2. Arrange the lettering how you like it, and rasterize the type on that layer.

    3. Use the lasso tool to squiggle all over the text. Not TOO much, but overlap multiple times.

    4. Switch to the arrow tool.

    5. Drag a bit.

    6. Rinse and repeat.

Holy crap, that site is awesome, thanks Matt, I got the font, and hundreds of more I'm ready to test out [face_devil]. Anyway, it's for the matrix intro as you might have guessed, hencing the title.

EDIT: Fig, I will try that ;)

I'm pretty sure its hiragana backwards thats what it is on all my matrix posters anyway!

Myself had it right - it IS Katakana. Hiragana is a lot more "curvy"

Anyhoo - I don't know about the rest of you, but when I stick in my Office XP (or Win XP - I can't remember which), under language options I can install the full Japanese character set on my machine. It was most useful when I was taking a Japanese class for kicks in my 4th year of undergrad.

So anyway - you might legitimately have access to the real thing and THOUSANDS of characters, as opposed to some cheesy "Matrix font".

While most of the characters are based on Katakana, the actual font used in the films is unique.. there are no Katakana fonts with the exact same shapes as the ones used in the film, and quite a few of the characters are different. While Katakana may have hundreds of characters, the Matrix code has only around forty. I picked apart every image I could find of the Matrix code to create my own font for it, and I was only able to isolate around forty unique symbols (I forget the exact number).

My suggestion would be to make a font for it.. it's the only way you'll get it exactly like the one in the films.

Is there a program that makes fonts that I can download free? If there is, I would make my own font set. But I don't think anyone wants to make this font and copy paste the characters all over.

Why not? I did. Took me several weeks, too. :) If someone doesn't have the patience to make something as simple as a font, then this filmmaking thing might not be your cup o' tea.

Katakana has 46 characters, same as hiragana... they're all vowels except for "n". I'll spare you the whole chart for space's sake

The matrix code uses katakana mixed with numbers and some purely fake ones to represent the computer worlds (interesting that katakana is used for "Borrowed" or some could say "Fake" words...)

I found the font for the Matrix title no problem. Don't remember where.

That reminds me, I still need to go in and add the new symbol they introduced in "Revolutions" in the beginning.

Just to clarify, there are thousands of characters in the Windows Japanese font set. The set not only includes Hiragana and Katakana (in a variety of forms - INCLUDING some futuristic ones), as well has a set of Kanji. The full set was over 100 MB I recall.

I've studied some japanese and lived in Japan some years ago, so I noticed right away that the "Matrix Code" was katakana backwards. I know this is way off topic, but does anyone know if that code actually means anything? Who knows, maybe the brothers put the entire key to the Matrix series in the opening of the films, hehehe, and no one tried to read that yet...

I'm not going for a hijacking here... This is actually related.

I just posted a full explanation about this in the Social Thread.

This thread prompted me to actually produce this spiffy effect - in fact, that's how I found the font :D .

    Check this out

See the Social Thread for the explanation. There's point in being redundant.

Does anyone have a free font program? A little off topic, but I have my own font that I want to use a fair amount on the computer, and I can't igure out how to actually convert drawing to TrueType without paying.

Incase anyone's interested, this thread inspired me to redo the intro for the Matrix film I'm working on. You can see the final result here. There's two mistakes I've noticed and fixed (the green character behind the colon and the last letter not completely winking out). I'm also going to change a few more things before I'm completely satisfied. The main page for the film is here.

If anyone's interested on how I came up with it, I did finally break down and create the font from scratch using photoshop. I took screenshots of the intro from the movie and then traced each character so they would be pretty much exactly as they were in the movies. If anyone wants it, I'll send the photoshop file with each character in it to anyone interested.
