Haven't read the Cestus Deception, but what color was his lightwhip?

I think it was orange, but I could be wrong.

It's been a while since reading this novel, but I'm under the impression that it was green (on the basis of his lightsaber colour, and what I recall from memory)

How's a lightwhip supposed to work, anyway? Is it just an amped-up vibrowhip or is the whip pure energy? I hope it's not the latter... I can accept lightsabers, with the assumption that electromagnetic fields keep it straight and stable, but I can't buy fields that will allow the energy to snake around and stuff...

I think it was like Lumiya's lightwhip in the old Marvel comics.

Basically a whip made out of segmented, sharp Mandalorian iron that conducts a lightsaber-esque energy field localized along the length of the weapon. Or alternatively, it could be more along the lines of Ona Nobis's laser whip from the Jedi Apprentice series. It wasn't really described in detail.

Or Githany's lightwip from J.v.S.. The one that could chop off limbs.

It was not pure energy. IIRC, it was just a coil of some material, through which energy flowed.

I think it would be most similar to Ona Nomis's whip. When, Obi-Wan built it, he said something about encountering bountyhunters that used something like it in the fringe.

Kind of makes you wonder why Jedi/Dark Jedi/Sith/Jensaarai/etc. didn't have settings on their lightsabers to convert them into energy-based lightwhips. That'd be a nasty surprise, especially if the lightsaber also had a built-in miniature blaster pistol. Talk about your Swiss saber.

Dude that's the only feature my fanfic star's saber doesn't have. His is dual-phase, has a blaster and a taser, and the hilt can extend it a staff. Now I've just got to include a light whip somehow.:D

That's why I'm keeping him in fanfic. I would never put something like that in an official book. I think.[face_whistling]

Not as much a "Gary Stu" as a "Hat," an object so powerful it would be justifibly legendary.
