Know Your Fanfic Trivia (game with potential fun and prize inside)

So what's going on you ask?

Well, given that other forums play fun games and reward the winners with temporary VIP colors, I decided that fanfic needed one too.

So with the approval of our mod and manager, I've come up with a game to play that will test a fanficcer's knowledge of these forums and the stories therein. Basically it will be like a scavenger hunt, in that no sane person can possibly have read every story in the forum so there's going to be some answer searching involved.

After some deliberating, I've decided that the game will be played in teams of two, though that isn't exactly set in stone yet. The winners, of course, will be the team that gets the most correct answers and they shall be showered with praise by some and bitterly hated by others.

I'm currently in the process of assimilating questions so the game probably won't start until July 1st just to make sure I have plenty of time to finalize the questions and the rules.

Most of the questions will relate to the stories themselves and vary in difficulty from "Who wrote what?" to "How many commas are in Story X?" (Okay, I'm kidding on that second one ... maybe) However, there will also be some general writing type questions and your knowledge of the fanfic forums may be tested as well.

While not every story can be included in the game, great pains are being taken to hopefully ensure that the game is not tilted in the favor of any particular time period or genre. Also, given that nobody can have read everything and that there's going to be considerable digging through the back pages of the stories forum to find answers, the oldbie advantage should be negligible, so you eager newbies shouldn't be afraid to join in. Remember, oldbies are lazy and don't like to look things up.

The reason I'm posting this now is to give everyone a heads up and to hopefully allow word to spread. My probe droids are out as we speak gathering questions from some of the members of these forums and undoubtedly more will be sent out in the near future. The reason I'm doing it this way is so that I just don't get flooded with PMs from everybody who wants to submit a question.

However, if you have a question in mind that you think nobody else can answer and you evilly want to see it included, I suppose you're free to send it to me via PM, but I make no promises that it'll be used. (edit: and if you do feel the pressing need to submit a question without my asking for it, kindly supply the answer as well )

Final rules for this game will be posted one week from Sunday (which will be the 23rd if I can still count on my fingers correctly) and after that team signups can begin.

Oh, and be sure to spread the word. There's no real bragging rights if you're the only ones who play.

Sure, VIPs and mods can play. I'm considering how to handle prizes for a person who is already a VIP or higher up is on the winning team.

Sure, there's still plenty of time. The game hasn't even started yet.

Basically this Sunday I'll post the rules of how the game will be played and then the people will "officially" sign up as teams. At the moment it's looking like you'll be able to play either by yourself or on a team of no more than two members, so consider that.

Then if everything goes according to plan, the game will begin on July 1st.

All that this thread was for was to give plenty of advance warning so anybody interested will have no excuse about not knowing about the game. Although it appears that TSL is fiddling with the coding to directly link to this thread, so that issue could be moot.
