During his battle with Yoda in AOTC Count Dooku stated that "It is clear that this contest will not be decided thu knowledge of the Force but skill with the lightsaber " While it is true that anyone can "use" a lightsaber , both Jedi and Sith use the Force during combat to augment thier physical abilities as well as Force Push, moving objects , Force lightning, danger sense etc" The Force is something that is an integral part of a Force sensitive Being and not something you turn on or off but use as you wish. So, I have never quite been sure what Dooku meant by rhat remark or if he was simply taunting Yoda as a ploy to draw him in.
He thought he could beat Yoda with his new dark side powers. Since he didn't ("much to learn you still have"), he decided to (try) beat him in a lightsaber duel. Seems pretty straightforward to me.
I agree with @Alexrd - it was more bravado and arrogance than a true statement. And Yoda is no slouch with the saber either. Love your siggy quote. Truly should've gone with Lucas' input.
Dooku also knew that Yoda was a more powerful force user which is why he needed to bring the fight to lightsabers where he thought his skills were superior to his former master's.
i think i heard a quote once from Darth Sidious about wanting to just use Force-Powers and get rid of Lightsabers or some thing? And btw is Darth Plaugeos cannon or is that (still?)gone?
You may be thinking of this line from the Legends novel Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader: "The Sith grew past the use of lightsabers. But we continue to use them, if only to humiliate the Jedi." The character is canon (mentioned in the movie) - as is one of the characters in the Darth Plagueis novel - his droid henchman - who got scenes in the newcanon Tarkin novel. The Plagueis novel itself, however, is Legends. This is a good example of "treating Legends as a resource to draw things from, and recanonize bits of.
thanks,i thought the quote was from the Plaugeos novel which is why i asked about it.Still,it is a **** of a quote.
