Hey guys. Just got a new PC and rather than buying a NEW game, I just got KOTOR off of STEAM. Played it on Xbox years ago and loved it. Always heard it was better on PC, now I can say I agree. However, the game image is stretched when u set it to the highest resolution - it wasn't made for widescreen. After doing some research I saw that there is a patch, but it requires some extra tinkering when used with the STEAM edition. Has anyone successfully used this patch on a copy of KOTOR downloaded from Steam? Is it worth it? I love this game and I don't want to risk wrecking it if it's not worth it.
Yes, I used widescreen patch and 1680 x 1050 HUD on my play-trough. It looked great. I had some crashes, and the game had a tendency to jump to the desktop during videos, though. There isn't any risk doing it - just back-up your save games. If something goes wrong, you might have to re-install.
Thanks man. Might give it a shot. Anyone else use the patch with a STEAM copy? Friggin love this game - hope the rumors of a new SW RPG are true.
Knights Of The Old Republic is amazing! Glad to see other people still enjoying the experience. I tried to play Kotor II on Windows 7, but I only got a really small picture in the middle of the screen, really frustrating. They should make these games compatible with current systems.
I don't get it, my Kotor and Kotor 2 looks just fine on 1920x1080 widescreen. It seems some copies can handle it, while others can't?? It just dosn't make any sence :/ Anyway i never used any widescreen patch, hope it works out
I'm sure I ran it on widescreen last time I played it and it was fine. Of course that was quite a while ago.
It's definitely worth it, and it's easier than ever. Instructions for the Steam version are here. However, there is no longer any reason to mess with UniWS and separate HUD/UI files. There is now a little utility that does it all for you. Just unpack the contents of the archive directly into your game folder - DO NOT create a sub-folder. If they are in a sub-folder, the utility will not be able to find your .exe. There should be 3 items: a folder named "widescreen," a text file named "WeiDU.log" and a batch file named "widescreen.bat." Right-click on widescreen.bat and run it as an administrator. A command window will pop up. Just follow the instructions, enter the desired resolution values and it'll do the rest. Be aware that some resolutions won't work, such as those common to 720p TVs, like 1280x720 and 1366x768. 1280x768 and 1280x800 will work, however, as will any resolution that's 1440x900 and above.
