KOTOR just came out for the Mac OS. Apologies to PS2/XBox/PC users for the rehash. Warning: Contains some spoiler material as far as revealing what to do to earn Dark Side points ===== Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic The Dark Side for Fun and Profit Okay, so you've tried the various character classes, and playing 'seriously' (i.e. working to solve problems rather than being a smart-mouthed bastard), your Force meter is hovering way up in the blue, and your companions generally think you're a nice person. But what about the Dark Side? In case you're interested, here are some of the major plot points to follow if you want to go Dark Side: Taris - Kill Dia for the bounty. - Kill Largo for the bounty. - Kill Matrik for the bounty. - Discuss the Rakghoul serum with the doctor, then open the lab door in the medical facility to discover the injured Republic soldiers. Threaten to turn the doctor in to the Sith. Persist in your threats; he'll get angry, give you some hush money, and say he never wants to see you in the hospital again. (However, if you should show up, he'll admit that he can't turn you away in good conscience.) - Rescue the man being threatened by Davik's goons, then kill him. (I haven't tested this one, I clicked on 'don't want to get involved,' figuring ignoring someone's obvious plight might be sufficient, and the enforcers hustled the old boy off to see Davik. But, given how things work, it's likely you can rescue him then kill him and get Dark Side points for it, plus whatever you took off the bodies of the bounty hunters.) - Pick a fight with the three drunks in Upper City North. - Begin the Hidden Bek/Swoop Accelerator quest. When you get to the Hidden Bek base and are offered the chance to betray Gadon, do so. You'll get behind some of the locked doors in the base, off everyone there, and still get to off Brejik after the swoop race. (I did *not* have Mission Vao in my party at the time - she expresses shock that you would betray Gadon, and I don't know if that changes how the Vulkars respond.) Afterwards, just for the XP, go back to the Vulkar base and kill anyone left in the garage ... I was also able to pick up the swoop accelerator there, even though it was technically installed in a bike already. - Do not cure the infected Undercity dwellers or the Republic soldier. Sell the rakghoul serum to Zax instead of the doctor. - Turn the Promised Land journals over to Igear instead of Rukil. (This is another untested item. I saw no indication that Igear was looking for something to elevate his standing in the community.) - Threaten Janice Nall and get the droid for free. - Threaten the receptionist at the Sith Base and kill her. Bear in mind this will trigger the alarm and the three Sith soldiers and a technician in the room to the left will respond. - Kill the Duros prisoner by changing the wall switches to all green. - Tell the Sith Governor you're looking forward to kicking his butt. - Climb the dueling ladder and challenge Bendak Starkiller to a real deathmatch. - Kill all of the guests at Davik's estate. Dantooine - Lie to the Jedi Masters, particularly Master Vrook. - Rush to your first test instead of asking Master Zhar about Revan and Malak. (I was surprised to see this one pop up, and may be misidentifying the reason for gaining Dark Side points.) - Kill Elise's droid and tell her he was offed by kath hounds. After she rushes back to the Jedi Enclave, go look in the guest rooms to find her with another man. She'll thank you, but you'll still get Dark Side points. - Kill all of the Mandalorian raiders (be sure to have Canderous with you for this fight, he'll love it). When you tell Jon, insist on a reward, then insist on more. Bastila will chide you for your ungenerous spirit if she's with you. - Rescue Shen Matale and tell the young lovers you did it for the money. When the two fathers (Sandral and Matale) square off, get them to pick a fight with each other. They'll calm d
Character strategies for KOTOR can be found here. Use the index next time. -----signature----- "Rabid Balding Ewok, you make me sick. Y'know, it's enough to mention the thread. There was no need to be rude and assume I didn't look at the index. Thanks for showing people what a positive, friendly community SW Fandom and theforce.net boards are. The thread you linked to is a general strategy, tips, and walkthrough thread. The majority of the content at the start of the thread is oriented towards solving puzzles and quests, rather than adopting a specific Dark Side approach to gameplay. I felt a separate topic was warranted; if any of the moderators feel it is redundant, they can lock it out with no problems. TK
If you took the time to browse the thread you would see that it is about tips and strategies. For crying out loud it says it in the title of the thread. KOTOR: Hints, Tips, Strategies, Walkthroughs (no cheats allowed). If you took the time to actually browse the thread you would have seen that Darkside progression has been discussed in that thread. As well as in in this thread. You must be pretty sensitive to get all bent out of shape over a line like "Use the index next time." Might want to stay clear of the internet then if thats all it takes to offend you. -----signature----- "Rabid Balding Ewok, you make me sick. OOO!!! It looks like an internet fight's a brewin'!! My money's on Ewok! But did you write out that whole thing yourself TK? Thats quite long winded, good job.
Ah, yes, I'm supposed to not only use the index, but look through the 80+ pages in the tips and strategies topic you referenced. Sorry, but between a full-time job and taking care of things like my family, the few hours I choose to spend on recreation are actually spent playing the game, and not being rude to someone just because I've already seen/done it all. Again, I point out that this topic was meant to address a specific approach sans the discussion of actual puzzles. Although I mention that you should do x, I generally leave it to the player to determine how to go about it. (Darth, thanks for the compliment on the post.) Additionally, as I have not completed the game myself, it is impossible to go through 80+ pages of spoiler-masked content to find only the references to the Dark Side; it's not as if, when asked for a pointer on a specific quest, people have been giving both the Light Side and Dark Side solutions. Finally, the only offense taken is that which is given. A simple 'please' or 'you might want to look here' would have made your reply more palatable. Yes, maybe you've seen threads like this ad nauseum, and you've gotten tired of redirecting them. So you choose to be rude, instead? Perhaps it's you who needs a break from the internet if you think a lack of manners is both common and acceptable practice. (Which, at any rate, I maintain Star Wars fandom should rise and lead by example, and strive to be polite and friendly as appropriate to our shared love of the Star Wars universe.) TK
No, you don't have to go through 80 pages. Just use some common sense. You have written down a strategy for an aspect of KOTOR. And you admittedly saw the thread for tips and strategies. So what is the problem? Are you trying to suggesting that we have separate strategy threads for KOTOR? That defeats the purpose of the Strategy/tips thread. -----signature----- "Rabid Balding Ewok, you make me sick. If there was an enemies list, you'd be on mine." :::*::(^^) :(^^) ::::::: ::::::/::::^^:::::\ ::*:: :::::/###-^^-##I ::::: : *:.l##/(*)# (*)\\::::: :::/##(###.00#)#I :::: ::(___/#*#(XXX)/__) :: ::/000{{{{www}}}}\:: Ewoks Will Eat You!
I'm sorry if you have issues with putting the Dark Side in its own thread. The majority of the existing KOTOR strategies/tips thread is oriented towards basic gameplay. It is assumed you are adhering to the Light Side and working to resolve conflicts and puzzles without resorting to force. Go look at the opening pages of that topic. Nobody says, 'Hey, if you threaten Zelka, you get Dark Side points.' It's a given that you're going to be a hero, find the serum, and return it to the good doctor. Read on, and, again - it's 6-7 pages in before someone loosely addresses the Dark Side by way of accepting bounties on another planet. This topic was intended to be Dark Side specific, not general. It addresses only the initial stages of the game without giving away solutions (apart from the Sandral/Matale feud), and it is a coherent discussion instead of being scattered through 80+ pages. At this point, you're only helping keep the thread alive by floating it to the top every time you reply. May I suggest that, if you don't like it, you move on and let it die out (which, given the activity on these boards, it'll be off the front page rather quickly if people don't respond), or recommend to a moderator that it be locked as redundant. Otherwise, if you want to discuss KOTOR and the Dark Side, fire away. ===== In keeping with that, I have noticed that I actually have to think about being a total bastard as far as the Dark Side is concerned. My own roleplaying style is to work to solve problems and encourage teamwork; a tabletop campaign will feature more puzzles like the Tainted Grove rather than straight-out smash-and-bash. With the Sandral/Matale feud, it's clear that you can earn Dark Side points for a less-than ideal resolution, but earn even more for promulgating loss of life and then lying to the Jedi Masters. Overall, it's not just the smart-mouth response that gets you the Dark Side points, but a more calculated approach that makes even a villain interesting; they're not just connect-the-dots evil, but evil because of the choices they make, and the manner in which they make them. TK
Well I think of this was going to be considered redundent, then either Quest or Night would've moved in and had this thread locked. Seeing as such that it is still around after 24 hours, it is reasonable to presume that this topic should be allowed to stay open. I also agree with the creator of this thread, why should someone have to go through 80+ pages of information just to find out how to get dark side points? This is more of a fact thread, if you do this, then this'll happen, related soley to the Dark Side. Hell, I think there should be one for the light side as well. Its not really hurting anything is it?
Another aspect to consider is that the recommendations above take you well into the 'red'; it is also possible to have your character be evil, but nonetheless subscribe to a certain morality. Not killing Juhani would be an example of this; settling for breaking up Shen and Rahasia instead of having everyone die would be another. How far are you (your character) willing to go? Are you a cheat, but not a murderer? Is your word your bond, or a mere formality? Then, also, how does it affect the team dynamic? I know Bastila has lines referring to your unpredictability and wilfulness; Mission expresses shock when you even consider betraying Gadon; might there be other surprises in store? Is gaining favor with Canderous worth alienating someone like Carth? I haven't sent my Dark Side character to Manaan, yet, either, so I don't know if it's possible to pick a fight with the Sith, and what the consequences might be if you do, given Selkath laws. (Heck, it'd be interesting to see how Canderous does there, since he can be pretty abrasive with his comments.) TK
With the stowaway on the Ebon Hawk you can get unlimited dark side points. Shout at her till she runs and you will get dark points. Then simply run and catch her and repeat the process.
Thanks for the info ill use that, i just started playing again, mostly to get heart of the guardian and that other saber crystal from that guy on yavin well, look ewok, a normal person who has a life outside of this website, isnt going to go through 80 pages of stuff, im with TK on this one
TK-855, there are 2 daily active KOTOR threads that discuss all manner of KOTOR topics, regardless what their respective titles suggest. New players are still asking for guidance there on a daily basis. There's no need to list all dark side opportunities on Taris. Many walkthrough sites do this and more, plus it's common sense. We know how to be rude to people, or steal their $$$. Not levelling up on Taris is a good idea but nothing we haven't known already; it'll allow you to get more Force powers. It's more challenging to play as a mere level 2, but understand that though you may die in one or two hard hits . . . Zaalbar's blades can kill in one hit at most. He's your man. It's very possible to kill Starkiller without Taris levelling up, I've done it several times. Check out one of the two official KOTOR threads for my advice on how. I posted it less than a week ago, it's in the last two thread pages at least. No offense, buddy, but you're basically telling us things we already know.
