    Dear Friends,

Probably as many of you, in anticipation for The Old Republic MMO, I am playing through the original KOTOR games. KOTOR I was great, which I bought off of Steam... and I was in the mood to play the second one. Against my better judgment, I couldn't wait so I purchased a physical copy of the game rather than wait for it to (possibly) show up on Steam in the near future... and just as I was quietly suspecting, there are problems.

Now that my complaining is out of the way, here's the problem: I installed it just fine, and the menu screen pops up. When I click "game," to play the game, it gives me THIS ERROR. I thought maybe the patch could fix it, so I downloaded the patch/installed it... restarted my comp.

Still, same problem. What is the fix for this?

I'm running on a Windows Vista PC and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 video card.

Please help if you can :(

    - Jinx

Find the patches if you can and install those. If that doesn't work then try running it in compatibility mode. It might be worth seeing if Windows can find a solution as well, though I find that they're not helpful. I had the solution 'download the latest version' when I was using the latest version of that program.

Basically, it doesn't work unless you are lucky, or do all that and are lucky. I'd check the Lucasarts KOTOR 2 forum. http://forums.lucasarts.com/forum.jspa?forumID=50&start=0

I just hope Valve and LucasArts hurry up and put this on Steam along with the first one. This is beyond ridiculous.

Edit: So I ran the hardware scan from the game and it gave me this:

    [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v155/machineman/kotorIIfailed.jpg]

Now, I know my driver is up to date, but okay... it says it wants that specific driver (Detonator 45.23) so I tracked down that file, downloaded it and installed it on my comp and restarting my comp... I ran the hardware scan, same exact result again! Now this boggles the mind... how can the scan not be finding this when I just installed that specific driver? Needless to say, the game still doesn't work.

Your video card is not supported...notice that 'null' thing? My guess is that it can't detect your video card at all. I have no idea how to fix that.

Also I hope you uninstalled all your other video drives before rolling back to an old one.

Could there be any way to emulate around it?

This reminds me of when I reinstall KOTOR, I always have to get the very latest update as my characters don't walk properly around the game. Sort of a "freeze and teleport" which goes away with the latest patches.

I've tried over and over again, but KOTOR II will not install on my PC. I can get through Disc 1 fine, but when I put in Disc 2, it says,
    " Feature transfer error

Feature: Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords_Files
    Component: DefaultComponent
    File: E:\data3.cab
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check). "

If anyone has the solution to this, please help.
    Thanks

    -Ven

Sounds like your disc has gone bad. I had a similar thing happen with Jedi Academy. It worked when I minimised the installation window for some reason, but I don't know why.

try getting alcohol 58 or something (it's the beta version of alcohol 120) and force it to make an image from your disk. make sure to check ignore errors.
Then mount the iso the program made, try it and see if it works.

Or you could just get the Xbox version.

Not when you can't install it.

And generally, console gaming > PC gaming.

Meh, I just like to play my RPGs with a nice keyboard and mouse rather than a clunky console controller.

Oh, and you can download awesome mods on the PC version.[face_mischief]

I have KOTOR on my laptop and I have Vista. I am able to launch it with no problem but the only thing that is way off are the character models. The heads are detached from the body itself and floats alongside the body. When I go to create the character profile, all I get is a pair of eyes and a mouth with teeth smiling while floating around. Is there a fix to this? Changing the resolution does nothing!! Even with the CD version, it won't work. I dunno.
