So could this be the start of Disney finally starting to make certain stuff from the EU canon again for the fans? It Looks as though they may from the Old Republic trilogy, by adding in what basically appears to be an old Thranta-class corvette or of similar design, In the latest snippet from the A princess on Lothal Preview below. As a HUGE fan of the Old Republic series, I think this is a fantastic little nod to that area of the expanded universe. Do you think this could be just the start? Let us know what you think
Certainly look like they could be a descendant or sister class, though not exactly the same. TFA tie-in materials made some sort of unlooked-for KOTOR references as well.
The old EU had a "Thranta-class War Cruiser" long before KOTOR - recanonizing it would be an interesting idea.
The Jedi Ship The Crucible was from the KOTOR era and they even used the old Jedi/Republic logo from that game on the ship. But I would not get carried away into believe KOTOR in its entirety is canon. Seems only if they personally like something a lot and agree, then they'll appropriate it into canon - this was true since Lucas's SE/PT films and carried over into TCW and now Rebels ect.
Thranta, Praetorian and Class VI bulk freighters all have the same look. They are ships from different eras. These could be any of those or none of those. They could have just used the design for fan service and give it a whole new back story. I am not for or against any of those theories.....just saying all we have now is a ship on the screen with no back story beyond what was in the old EU.
As other have said, adding a ship means nothing. Does not mean the EU (or parts of it) is suddenly going to become canon.
The new trailer shows a lot more stuff which is clearly KOTOR influenced. We have Kanan in a room that looks almost exactly like the buildings on Dantooine. We have Sith Holocrons, we have yet another ancient Sith Temple with lots of ancient Sithy-stuff. Why can't they just come out and say those old games still count? :/
I would hazard a guess that a big part of it is the KOTOR backstory: tricky to recanonize KOTOR without Tales of the Jedi too.
I still won't accept anything from that era as NOT canon until it's contradicted very, very explicitly... and these numerous callbacks don't exactly help in the process of letting go. Though talk of the First Jedi Temple from TFA may be the thing that does it. We shall see.
