I'm sorry. I just go by the audiobooks all the time. and besides that, I don't wanna end up confusing it with the real-word nation of Kuwait. I don't really think an author would name a planet after a real country...

funny I've heard it pronounced Kuwait in some of the audio sources. possibly the video games.

Also don't forget that nubia, or tatooine are named after real places.

    coo-watt

That's the way they say it on the game X-Wing Alliance.
If it's good enough for Lucasarts it's good enough for me.

By any chance, did Margaret Ann Lewis put Kuat in the pronunciation guide at the back of Essential Guide to Aliens? I haven't checked. Hopefully she did, but I can't remember anything from Kuat being in that book.

I'm with Bib. I always use the 1 sylable (sp?).

    Rhymes with hot. Kwatt.

And in my experience, the audiobooks cannot be trusted. The Han Solo trilogy says things like "Pal'-puh-tyne" and "Kor'-us-kant".

Well, remember -- in some places on Earth, the pronunciation of a word can change from mile to mile as you visit small villages with different dialects. Over the english-speaking world, many words have many different pronunciations. I say toe-may-toe, but I actually do know someone who says toe-mah-toe. There's not one way to say these words. Even in the movies, sometimes it's Han and sometimes Hahn in terms of pronunciation.
