since when are obscure games more important than classic EU lore that defined a beloved character that is still in use with that backstory?

Umm, yeah... that's all completely wrong. Whoever that guy is, he has no idea what he's talking about. All comics starting with DE are fully canon, and pretty much everything in Marvel is, too (I think there are a few exceptions, but I'm not even sure that remains true). And Dark Forces is completely canon. As always, gameplay mechanics are not - so, for example, it isn't canon that Kyle was always carrying ten different weapons on him including such-and-such - but the story itself is completely canon. Any disagreements with new games are ironed out by the continuity folks.

And as for Lethal Alliance completely contradicting Dark Forces... it doesn't. So far as I can tell, nothing in the two is incompatible. One more set of Death Star plans, of course, but what's that in the grand scheme of things? :p

This is a case of where the canon "levels" are really pretty silly. When they decide to go and retcon something, they just decide to go and retcon something. When they write a sourcebook, they just write a sourcebook. We've seen cases of Ben being given blond hair based on Wookieepedia... that demonstrates how rigorous their use of the Holocron is.

Was it Sue Rostoni last year who made a comment about how canon is "fluid"? Which basically translates to that they just wing it the whole time and do what they feel works best.

As far as I'm concerned... Lethal Alliance is one of those video games that will probably be consigned to a one line reference in future sourcebooks, if that. Kyle Katarn, in contrast, is a character who has been referenced in numerous subsequent works (as has the Dark Trooper Project been referenced in loads of places), so Dark Forces rather harder to erase.

    When in doubt:

Lethal Alliance was a Rebel holothriller.

It was a clone of Kyle Katarn.

It was Kyle Katarns twin brother, Owen Katarn.

It was a flow-walking Kyle Katarn from the future.

Rianna was hallucinating her dream man after too much spice.

I agree, but since I never played Lethal Alliance, could anyone give me the story and the setting, or the difficult points / differences?

    PS: Long Live Mighty Kyle

I can barely remember the plot...

The Death Star plans didn't seem an issue at all. What's another set on a list already without end?

I assume the main issue is her teaming up with Kyle Katarn for part of it... but unfortunately I can't actually remember what happens with that. I believe he was already a Rebel agent by then... so could it be because he was still in the Empire at that point? I'm not up on when the two games were set.

Even that really shouldn't be an issue with proper timeline placement.

if it is set post ANH, or could be placed there, then we might see the first mission to get the plans for DSIII or to check rumors if there are more.

but if it is pre-ANH which I fear, the Kyleline (= Kyletimeline) gets even shorter than it had been already.

the wook says, the twilek was contacted by Kyle... meaning he was her superior. and the game starts everal months before ANH already.

she was captured and brought to Despraye where she learned of the Death Star.

this Despraye part means the game is paralell to the Death Star novel... meaning Kyle contacted her even before that... over 1 year before ANH... ARGH BAD BAD BAD

also how did she get into the communications center with so many guards and send a direct message to the rebels? how stupid is that? then she even steals an imperial ship all alone... Tarkin & Daala were present, why the heck did she have success?

Also this seems she was on Danuta after Kyle had already left there, or before he even got there. Is that why the rebels learned of Danuta? and why Kyle was sent there afterwards?

    a possibility:

wookipedia says the game tells that Lethal Alliance is after Katarns mission there. since she gets the updated plans the technicians requested... Kyle just got "old plans"..

so we now have Kyle as rebel over 1 year pre-ANH... Dark Forces taking place over 1 year pre-ANH and the novel Death Star coming afterwards Dark Forces (which does not add up with the librarian sending the plans to danuta and Tarkin not knowing danuta...)

    MESS:..

Lethal Alliance came out with a promotional mini-game: Death Star designer. This explains everything: several lower level designers got to send in their own personal death star designs. The rebels had to try and find the real one (sadly they used the one with the superlaser in the center, but it was close enough).

Rianna was fired for bringing back the designs of a pink death star with an amusement park.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the difficulty with Lethal Alliance lies in the contradiction of events seen in the Death Star novel.

Kyle Katarn no doesn't go to the dentist. He personally killed all the plaque germs in his mouth with his bare hands.

Kyle Katarn does not want you to turn this canon/continuity debate into another "Kyle is a God" topic of worship.

IMO, all of the instances of stole Death Star Plans are just pieces of them, not the whole thing. So when all of them are brought together, they make the Death Star, its just that the Rebels put it together wrong and had the laser in the center.

Of course, Kyle stole the biggest piece of the Death Star Plans, because he's Kyle fricking Katarn.

Fair point. Canon works for Kyle Katarn, not the other way around. If the movies need to be changed for Kyle Katarn, so be it. :p
    Sure he does... ;)

why do I get the feeling Sith Emperor Katarn never came back from Korriban? he influenced all of us and turned you into "The Voices of Katarn"

    well, back on topic:

can Dark Forces be moved before the Death Star novel or not?

can we reintegrate Danuta as an Imperial DS research center and Tarkin just did not remember every part of the giant project in Death Star novel?

can it be a coincidence that the DS librarian sent the DS plans to Danuta not knowing it was a DS research center? or hiding them there knowing it was?

so the Twilek stole the plans beamed from Death Star while Kyle got original blueprints. thus we have Kyle get the first set ever and the rest were missions to confirm and detail the original set Kyle brought. then Kyle assisted and directed all these missions, combined them, collected the final set again and presented them to the rebels shortly before ANH?

I like it IF it works, but does that work? can we move Dark Forces pre-DS novel?

Do you dare question the God Emperor of Mankind? Heretics such as you besmirch humanity itself, and no loyal citizen of the Imperium shall stand for it.

Actually, he's quite a bit above Chuck Norris, and just below John Wayne.

A game for the DS and PSP that came out in the fall of 2006, with an orange Twi'lek as the main character.

BTW, welcome back to Lit- that icon just doesn't feel right on anyone else (unless they, too, have a crazy amount of knowledge on AVP & Terminator ;) ).

I'm (slowly) catching up on Star Wars EU stuff -- I haven't been collecting any of the comics for the past year or so, and while I've been buying books as I see them in paperback at Wal-Mart (just bought 'Invincible' a couple days ago) I haven't actually read any of them. :p I've got a lot of books to sit down and read, including:
    - Outbound Flight
    - Death Star
    - Dark Nest trilogy
    - Coruscant Nights trilogy
    - all of the Legacy of the Force series
    - second and third Republic Commando books
    - Allegiance
    - second Darth Bane book

    Somebody shoot me now. :(
