Who do you believe is right. Corran Horn is a lets stay loyal to the GFFA type and thinks that they should serve it above all else. Kyp Duran on the other hand is more like Qui Gonn Jinn, Obi Wan, Mace Windu, Yoda, and Dooku in that they feel they serve the force befor the republic( all five had a low opinion of some senaters and the senate and it's corruption). Like Dooku he has turned to the dark side before. He seems to see the ptential for corruption in the GFFA. Corran Horn is more like Anakin in his first loyalty seems to be to the GFAA as Anakins was to the republic and chancelor. Both seem to believe in leader worship. Kyp Durron seems to be more loyal to the Jedi Order as OBi Wan, Mace Windu, and Yoda were.

I actually support Kyp's view even though I think he is a complete jerk.

Mace, Yoda et.al got it right (for once). The Senate by definition will always be tainted and if the Jedi served the greater good rather than the Republic itself then they would be able to act in the Republic's best interests. (Think Mace saying they needed to move against Palpatine).
IIRC there's a point when one of the Jedi (I think it's Mace but it could be Obi-Wan) saying that they serve the office of the Supreme Chancellor rather than the man in itself. Politicans came and went, but they Jedi remained or so they thought.

    I honestly don't know, it's a tough choice.

I do not believe Corran feels the the Jedi should serve the Galactic Alliance above all else. I think he too would say that they should serve the force to protect the people of the Galaxy. I think he believes that staying with the Galactic Alliance and being loyal to them will noly help the Jedi in their quest to serve force and the people of the galaxy.

And I don't think Kyp believes the Jedi should serve the force above all else. Kyp believes the Jedi should do whatever he thinks is best. Kyp is just an arrogant jerk who is powerful, but nowhere near as powerful as he thinks he is. And he has very little wisdom to go along with the power he does have.

I'll stay neutral and quote from TJK page 324: "The Jedi exist to serve the GA" Corran. Then Kyp says: " Our duty is to the Force...our only duty". this opinion is shared by Jacen and strangely Mara (unbelieveable that she would agree with Kyp!) I think the Old Order Jedi were too involved with the government and it dragged them down, but I think the Old Order had many more problems than just that. The New Order has many problems too, one being that they are warriors and they are "monks" with magical powers. You can't go around wielding the power Jedi do without some sort of government affiliation [the warrior side], but there is also the logic that the Order must remain pure and honor the Force[the religious side].

Then of course there is Jacen who states in regard to this debate: "And so we place the burden of remaining pure on lesser shoulders?" and also " Do you really believe the Jedi should be the tool of such frail institutions?" So if people are really looking for an example of arrogance, I think they can find it in Jacen. He seems to have taken over Kyp's characterization in terms of power and arrogance. [face_mischief]

This is just my opinion...please do not attack me.

    Uh... Kyp.
The Jedi order had to claw itself back into existence and fight to maintain it ever since. Who better personifies that?

Corran Horn and Kenth Hamner are about the only Jedi who have any sense about the role of the Order.

The Galactic Alliance has emerged as the preeminent force of peace and order in the Galaxy, and barring another regime change it will remain that way for the foreseeable future. The Jedi will best serve the cause of preserving life and encouraging harmony by serving the Alliance.

If they're not loyal to the Alliance, then they're effectively a terrorist organization and should be treated as such.

I'd actually say Mace Windu's attitude is closer to Corran's. Remember the RotS novelisation.

"Mace, too, has an attachment. Mace has a secret love.
    Mace Indu loves the Republic
Many of his students quote him to students of their own.: 'Jedi do not fight for peace. That's only a slogan, and is as misleading as slogans always are. Jedi fight for civilisation, because only civilisation creates peace.'
For Mace Windu, for all his life, for all the lives of a thousand years of Jedi before him, true civilisation has had only one name: the Republic."

I think corran meant that the Jedi are meant to serve the people of the galaxy, and since 99% of the people live in the GFFA the Jedi must serve it. Now if the GFFA were to bhecome corrupt to a point where it was not doing good for it's citizens I believe Corran would be one of the first to revolt agaisnt the corruption.

There's only one obvious answer of course:

    Both!

Kyp Durron serves the "living force" and Corran Horn serves the "unifying force" -- both are correct in their own way and both serve the Force in their own way. It's almost exactly the distinction between Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon or Mace and Yoda...

I would have to say both are correct. Kyp is right in certain ways and Corran is right in certain ways.

Kyp's view. This should be the view of the Jedi. The old Jedi Order fell because of their attachment to the Republic. The Galactic Alliance is no different than the Republic. The New Jedi Order and the Alliance can help each other, but the NJO shouldn't serve them. They serve the Force, and most of the Galactic Alliance does not understand the Force (of course, I know most Jedi don't fully understand the Force either, but that's Luke's job as Grand Jedi Master to guide them and lead them).

The Jedi should never serve the government. To use a real world comparison, we have the seperation of Church and State. This is similar. The Jedi should not serve the weak beurocracy that is the Senate. It will, like the past has shown, lead to stagnation and the weakening and destruction of the Jedi Order. The Jedi should serve the Force, and nothing else.

A similar attitude is a major part of why the old Jedi Order died.

Corran's view because of a few simple questions.

Who built the Temple on Coruscant?
Who built the academy on Ossus?
Who gave the Jedi all of their high tech equipment?
Who supplies the power and utilities to the Jedi facilities?
Who uses the tax payers' credits to fund the Jedi budget(as admitted by Omas in TJK)?

The answer to all of them is the Galactic Alliance. To maintain a legitment government, the Jedi have to follow the will of the Galactic Alliance as long as the Jedi is a member of the Alliance government. Actions taken by the Jedi during Dark Nest is akin to if the CIA refused to do the U.S. government's wishes in the War on Terror. Because of the simple fact I've not flunked my government class, Corran's view is the only logical choice.

I'm sure there are parties in the galaxy that would be willing to donate funds and material to Jedi instead of them being reliant on the GA or they can find a way to fund themselves. A few Qui-Gon type nonfamous Jedi to work the Gffa casinos and a few with the gift of foresight to play intergalactic stock market should secure the order enough funds for the Jedi to be well stocked. It's kinda shady but Jedi toys aren't cheap.
