I was just comparing Lapti Nek (By Jabba's Palace Band) to Jedi Rocks (1997 and 2004 Revision). Which one do you like more? I would have to go with Lapti Nek because it has more authenticity and Jedi Rocks sounds more modern. Thanks!

I don't particularly like any of the source music from RotJ, but I guess of those two songs I would have to say that "Lapti Nek" is only slightly less annoying than "Jedi Rocks".

Lapti Nek - sleazier, darker, it just adds to the seedy underbelly of Jabba's palace. I was terrified of every aspect of Jabba's palace as a kid, particularly of Sy Snootles and Co.

Jedi Rocks has won me over. Much better than Lapti Nek.

Lapti Nek for authenticity's sake (it was the original song). Plus, who would you prefer, John Williams or "Jerry Hey"?

Lapti Nek. ANYTHING is better than the horrible CGI in Jabba's Palace(The lowlight of this great saga, if you ask me).

Ah, yes, the song sucks, because you don't like the CG during the scene o_O

Jedi Rocks is cool. I love to sing it along :D

Personally, I think they should have made the SE version of the palace performance like Lapti Nek. By this I mean having not much movement, but still use CGI. I would have preferred it if the song had been kind of a slow jazz/blues/lounge type song. Something along the lines of Billie Holiday or Nina Simone.

But to answer your question, Jedi Rocks was an improvement in terms of being a better song.

    And like that...he's gone.

Do you mean the Lapti Nek Film version or the CD version? They are completely different you know.

The best is the Lapti Nek film version. It is better than "Jedi Rocks" because it actually sounds like alien music instead of GE Smith and the SNL band.

I think both are crap. The idea of a musical number in the middle of a SW film is one of George's worst. The entire Jabba sequence is too long and throws ROTJ off balance.

Actually, it wasn't a "musical number" in the original. The band was briefly part of the atmosphere of the palace, but not spotlighted in a "breaking the 4th wall" fashion. In the original, it was more like how they showed the cantina band, but didn't focus solely on them except to show what they look like.

Yes but it was always George's intent to have a musical number.

But at least he didn't initially succeed. Too bad he followed through.

Well, George also originally intended for Greedo to shoot first, didn't he? I wouldn't take his statements about his original intentions too seriously.

Why not? It's known that Star Wars was released a lot later then it was supposed to, so it's believable that he never got the time to film the Greedo scene the way he wanted it (why would the studio allow him to delay it again?)

As for the question, I like Jedi Rocks better.

There is no evidence that Greedo was supposed to shoot first. It's not mentioned in the scripts or anything.

True, in fact the lines spoken by the actor in the mask indicate he's only planning on taking Han to Jabba. He says, "lets go" and motions with his head and gun for Han to get up and leave with him. This makes more sense story wise to me.

Doesn't it kinda go like this:

Greedo: You can tell that to Jabba. He may only take your ship.
    Han: Over my dead body.
Greedo: That's the idea. I've been looking forward to this for a long time.
Han: Yes, I'll bet you have.

That always indicated to me that Greedo intended to shoot Han, but as the cutaway shots to Han's blaster show, Han was prepared for that, and just a little more clever and quicker on the trigger.

p.s. I'm not trying to justify the change. :p

    Lapti Nek, definatly.

Not only is it a better song, but Oola looks much happier dancing to it than she does to Jedi Rocks.

I can get either stuck in my head, but I like Lapti Nek infinitely more. It's got a darker feel to it, and it's less cheezy. I mean, "Av queck zenick fesi" sounds less childish than "Ti kah kooki ooh pa pa chiki narr ki eh!"
