Does anyone recall seeing a left handed jedi using a lightsabre in the movies??

Would there be a difference?? Of course.
Consider a left & right handed baseball batters or a left & right handed batsman in cricket for the cricketers among us. The bottom hand on the sabre hilt (like the bottom hand on the baseball bat and the top hand on a cricket bat) is the guiding or controlling hand, while the top hand on the hilt (top hand in baseball, bottom hand in cricket) is the power hand.

For a right handed jedi, the bottom hand on the hilt should naturally be the left hand while the top hand will be right hand. A power swing will start with the blade held over the right shoulder, a-la Qui Gon photos.

Conversely, a left handed jedi will naturally put his right hand on the bottom of the hilt and the left hand at the top (top being closest to the blade). A swing will start with the blade held over the left shoulder, which we have not seen.

I cannot recall seing any jedi in EpII:AotC holding their sabres this way, thus indicating left handedness.

However, in different stills, we see Anakin holding his sabre both ways, i.e. left and right handed grips.

Further back in Ep IV and V (didnt check back on RotJ yet), non other than Vader using both the left and right handed grips when not using his characteristic one handed grip.

Does anyone find this at all interesting?

All the jedi are ambidextrous. It's a side effect of the midichlorians and the use of the force. ;)

But really, with their "super natrual" fighting abilities, I would think that they would become ambidextrous.

Well... I guess they could be ambidexterous.
But still they always favour the right handed approach to sabre fighting.

Anakin does seem to use a sabre in his left hand a bit more than the other Jedi we've seen. He seems to most prone to ambidexterity, if that doesn't sound too scientific :p

yes Vader is left handed.

this could be part of the "Sith Lord" Mystic though. Dark Lords of the Sith, are traditionaly left handed.

Mark Hamill is left handed and if you watch that duel with Vader on Bespin you can see Luke favors that hand.

"Are Dooku and Maul leftys?"

good question. don't know. but i know Exar Kun was.

there is also mention of something called a Sith lanvarok which is somesort of melee weapon aparently. you must be left handed to use it.

The Bacta War: page 222

"I'll loan you any weapon you want to deal with her. I have things from all over, including a recently acquired Sith lanvarok that promises to be truly elegant, if I've figured out correctly how it's supoposed to work." Karrde frowned. "But you're not left-handed, so that will complicate things."
Mirax raised and eyebrow. "you really have a lanvarok?"
"Yes, you have a buyer?"
"A collector."
"Good."
"And he's left-handed."
"Even better."
"If you will give me details on the lanvarok and authenticate its sith origins..."

In the battle of Geonosis, there were some lefty Jedi. I do recall Lucas saying that not all Jedi fight alike and they have their own style.

Yeah, I used to think for years it was a rock too. I just didn't look at it carefully enough. But when I examined the scene (like many others), I noticed it was a skull.

Funny thing about the whole 'left side thing.

For instance.

Sinister - is another way to describe left sided.

Gauche - is French for left but can also mean awkward.

And of - awkward is to do with left sidedness also.

When my aunt was at school (the 40's) she was taught by nuns as was the case with many in Scotland then.

She was naturally left handed, but the nuns (in their infinite wisdom) would tie her laft hand to her chair so that she would have to learn to write with her right hand.

In my experience of Catholosism, the left hand side is not looked upon too well.

Why? Dunno.

With the Sith being left handed, that maybe adds to their already evil persona.

;)

But then again, the majority of peeps are right handed.

:D

*phew*
