Hey guys this is one of my first real projects so dont judge too hard. I'd love any advise that you guys have. I made it in 3D Studio Max 7 in about 4 to 5 hours total.

That looks very nice indeed. The details on the wings especially makes it lok even more impressive. The only thing I can see wrong is the cockpit window, which, at the moment, looks opaque, but I'm sure you're working on that.

Very good for 4-5 hours work, and for a first project. I hope to see more soon.

It's not too bad as far as dimentions go, I've seen people do worse. There is an easier way though, look up ldraw

I do the bottom of lego with Booleans, although it's difficult for some of the different shapped stuff.

Just remember your dimensions for the pieces because it'll be difficult to do if you just made up the piece sizes.

Here's one that I did, although some of the Technic pieces are incorrect resulting in some stretching, all the pieces end up pretty close.

Not bad, some pieces need more work, what radius do you have the studs at? They seem a little big. You are using the grid snap for the pieces right? There are some pieces that have inconsistant sizes. Looks like you've got a good initial grasp of the sizes though.

    Good Job !

    Look this website : http://www.hccamsterdam.nl/brickfactory/theme/index.htm

This website, with Ldraw and 3ds max, gives good results in modeling very quickly !

Made in 40 mins with Ldraw and 3ds :

And a little link, a Lego plugin for max :

That's what I use---Go from LDraw (MLCad) then export to .obj from LeoCAD, then import to 3ds Max--smooth, scale by 1,250 (that makes each lego unit equal to 10 3ds Max units) then use Push at like -0.01 to make some spaces between the pieces, then add the materials and lighting--ends up pretty good.

Depending on the quality of the model that you want, I do different things. For the high quality models, I can't add much detail because it'll be too much. For instance, the edges aren't rounded and there aren't any reflections. I just use a standard material, with the shader changed to Multi-Layer (change it from Blinn) then set the first specular layer intensity to 300, with a glossiness of 90, then the second specular layer to an intensity of 20 with glossiness of 0. Then just use the right color for the plastic and it looks great. For higher-quality models, (smaller models that I want to add more detail and make them more realistic) I chamfer the edges instead of making the pieces smaller---using an autochamfer Maxscript, then add reflections into the regular material from before. For rendering I use Vray, because it's really fast, and it can achieve great results and has great integration with 3ds Max.
