Leia as Jabba's slave girl

Leia seemed to be in remarkably good physical and emotional shape after escaping from Jabba's clutches. Given the population of Jabba's court - mostly males who have rejected the coventions of civilized society -- you'd think she would have been subjected to quite a bit of physical and psychological violence, including rape.

Any thoughts?

Well, you've an attractive young woman who has been taken prisoner by a gangster, bound with a chain, and placed in a bikini. Are we to assume that Jabba and his minions were otherwise perfect gentlemen?

 

It's a fair question. Out-of-universe, the obvious answer is that a PG-rated family-friendly adventure movie is hardly the right milieu in which to depict or even refer too such brutal acts.

In-universe, we might explain it this way. Leia is Jabba's personal slave; she doesn't belong to everyone else in the Palace. Jabba is biding his time before he "takes" her (whatever that may consist of, considering his girth and peculiar physiology), because he wants her will and her innate defiance to be whittled away to nothing. He likes 'em compliant. Jabba is nothing if not patient, by all indications, and is content to wait for her rebelliousness to crumble.

Unfortunately, he never gets the chance, as the chains of bondage -- intended slowly to drain Leia's will -- are converted instead to an instrument of homicidal justice at her righteous hands.

 

We can't say about Jabba, but I would guess that she's off limits to everyone else. You don't mess with the leader's girl. Not unless you want to spend quality time with the Rancor.

 

Leia was only there one night, and she spent that night in Boba Fett's room, per Jabba's orders. Fett had no interest in doing anything harmful to her.

 

You mean she was cooped up in Fett's motel room for a night? God, that seems more likely to lead to rape than sitting next to our favorite Hutt all day.

But yeah, she was "fresh meat" and Jabba was just getting used to his new plaything (1 day) - everyone in the palace probably was afraid to even look at her for fear of jealous retribution.

Jabba tells her something to the effect of "soon you will learn to appreciate me." I agree with what someone else said about Jabba wanting to whittle her down first. Put her through hell until she realizes that the only way to make things better for herself is to keep Jabba pleased, and therefore serve him willingly.

As for the rest of Jabba's court. As others have said, no I don't think it would be cool with Jabba if his cronies were trying to get intimate with his property.

 

Of course it's just speculation, but perhaps he did rape her. Leia's pretty
tough company; she's already been tortured by Darth Vader back on the Death Star and
seen her homeworld pulverized. Instead of being traumatized, she's turned it into a
motivation to off the fat slug the first chance she got. It didn't take her long to
throttle him to death with a chain, did it.

Then again, their first "night" together, she might have unknowingly used a force
suggestion to put him off... "You're too drunk and tired to be a player tonight,
Jabba (NOO EETA MY PEEPEE MAWANA WANGA) You don't want to get it on (JANGUA ME NO
HARDO WOODY) You want Sy Snoodles instead (ME BANGO WANNA GARABBA JIGJIG)...

Just speculation.

But I seriously doubt Leia was raped. It's just too much to handle for a PG-rated movie, especially in the early 80s. I don't care how tough Leia is, being raped scars you for life--it couldn't have happened and just been repressed.

Right, and being tortured under the supervision of a Dark Lord of the Sith and watching your homeworld being blown to pieces doesn't scar someone for life? Anyway, here's an interesting quote from the ROTJ novelization:

And Jabba having sex of any sort with Leia strikes me as more something for a Japanese anime than Star Wars, personally.

 

Jabba did lick Leia right after she was caught freeing Han. While not rape per se, it is sexual harassment.

 

Maybe the tongue caresses were Hutt rape.

And yeah, Leia's had a pretty messed up life already, but who's to say that just because she's already been through other traumatic things, new experiences in that category shouldn't bother her?

 

I faintly remember the eu story with her being given to Boba for the night and they just had a conversation. Anyways, no one gonna mess with Jabbas slaves without his say so..

What was Leia's & Boba's conversation about? Were they mean to eachother, or did they drink tea and tell eachother stories?

 

They had a pretty good debate about whether or not the Rebellion was justified.

 

Fett also loses his temper with Leia when she defends Han's honor, and Leia gets upset with Fett because of all he has done.

 

Thats probably what Jabba had in mind on the sail barge.

 

Of course Jabba didn't rape her. That's preposterous. Not only is it completely inappropriate for this type of film but I seriously doubt Hutts have the right type of "equipment" to perform said act.

 

Definitely too dark for the films, but maybe not for the EU, and hence not dark beyond the realm of possibility.
Is Jabba too girthy for humanoid coitus, or simply too fleshy? Perhaps there's a semi-official answer to this pertinent question.

But yeah, I'm assuming that any rape committed by Jabba onto Leia was more the mental sort. He dresses her up in practically nothing, puts a chain around her neck, and forces her to obey his commands; that's dominance & control, which are what the basis of what rape is really about.
