This is in response to the Order 66 Challenge.

Run. Stop. Listen...Run. Stop. Listen. The same pattern had been going on for at least an hour. Run across the hall. Stop before you're seen. Listen for the traitorous clones.

Zett Jukassa could barely breathe. He should have already been dead. The black of death would have been welcome over the disgusting red of blood. It wasn't even his blood. It was his friends'. He didn't have the courage to fight Anakin Skywalker. He didn't have the courage to watch the young Jedi be cut down like animalsby their believed savior. He didn't have the courage to find his little sister and get her to safety.

Coward. She's dead now. You know it, it's your fault.

Zett caught the sob in his throat before it could betray his position. Instead, he focused on where he was. He had been in the archives when the first screams of death and despair were heard. Being the coward he is, Zett hid behind the shelves and watched as Jocasta Nu took a lightsaber through the heart. He smelt the burnt flesh of Knights as their blood was boiled through Force lightning.

For some reason, he held onto the hope that they wouldn't kill the younglings, but when a Twi'lek no more than four years of age ran up to Jocasta's body and was quickly reduced to a shell of holes, Zett knew that even he wasn't safe. So he did what any coward would have done:

    He ran.

Now he's stuck in a hallway. He can hear clones marching behind him, but if he runs outside, the clones that are menacing that man will make quick work of him. Then he sees the man's face, and the decision is made for him. It isn't the terror. It isn't the disgust. It's the face itself.

    Bail Organa.

For some reason, he sees this man he hardly knows as an ally. For some reason, he sees this man and his wife holding a baby in their arms. For some reason, he knows that he will run in between this man and the clones' fire, which is exactly what he does.

All fear forgotten, he leaps in front of the fire, and lets his lightsaber guide him. He no longer knows what is happening, and when, a few seconds later, he is on one knee and breathing heavily, he wonders why. All he needs to do is look down, at the gaping hole his stomach has become, and he realizes that he is lost.

But he is no longer a coward.

He is a Jedi, and he goes to his death with peace. His last thought isn't even about himself. It's about the terrified Senator who is half in-half out of his speeder. His last thought is about the man that is holding the baby girl with his wife.

If I die, let him survive.

    [fin]

    Hope you like!

Fine line between cowardice and prudence, avoiding fighting Anakin Skywalker seems more prudent than cowardly (though that is something that, had he survived, it would have been almost impossible to convince Zett off).

Very vivid combination of sight and smell with seeing Jocasta be stabbed and smelling others be burnt.

Liked the force-vision of Bail with his wife and Leia, and the decision to trust in the Force?s guidance and die for Bail.

Good job. That was a powerful scene in the film to be able to see the boy actually stand up to the clones, even if but for a brief moment.

I feel sorry for the boy. But he was brave to the last. Excellent addition. :)

Very good. I like this version of what happened. That Zett fought through his fear because of the good that would come out of his sacrifice.

    cdmcc- Good job.

    Thanks!

_JM_- Fine line between cowardice and prudence, avoiding fighting Anakin Skywalker seems more prudent than cowardly (though that is something that, had he survived, it would have been almost impossible to convince Zett off).

Yep, I agree. I had him think himself a coward because of how his friends died and he survived.

Very vivid combination of sight and smell with seeing Jocasta be stabbed and smelling others be burnt.

Believe it or not, I hated writing that part. In all the books when they mention it, it makes me sick.

Liked the force-vision of Bail with his wife and Leia, and the decision to trust in the Force?s guidance and die for Bail.

I had to give him a reason for doing it. When I saw the movie, I was wondering what the heck the kid was doing. I thought he must of been having delusions of granduer or something. Thanks for reading!

Beta- *jaw drops* Good job! That was my favorite line of all.

Thanks! I thought that summed up what his thoughts would have been quite nicely.

    maderic- Good job.

    Thanks!

That was a powerful scene in the film to be able to see the boy actually stand up to the clones, even if but for a brief moment.

As I said before, I thought something was wrong with the kid, but after the movie I found I had a lot of respect for him.

    cdmcc- Agree totally. Great job

    Thanks again!

Note to self - keep up with these challenges!

Yep, they turn up some pretty good stories. (Not talking about mine)

Sara_Kenobi-I feel sorry for the boy. But he was brave to the last.

I'm sure he'd be glad to hear so.

    Excellent addition. :)

    Thanks!

    the_wandering_shadow-Very good.

    Thanks for reading!

    It's the Jedi way. ;)

PS: In my script it says his name is Zett. Someone elses fic says it's Jett. Which is it?

His name in the film his Zett Jukassa, he's played by Jett Lucas, George's son.

    You are correct.
