Saga - OT Let's Get Started (Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor, Rogue One Speculation/Spoilers, One-Shot)

So this one shot is my speculation on how the beginning of R1 will go, specifically when the team is preparing to depart Yavin IV (the scene in the trailer with Jyn and Cassian strutting through the hangar). Literally all this is speculation on my part.

As Mon Mothma spoke to Jyn Erso, Captain Cassian Andor stood with his arms crossed, looking at the young woman with a mixture of respect and annoyance. Jyn was known for her rebellious attitude and violent nature, and Cassian wasn't sure if she was the right one for this job. Mothma had insisted, and so here Jyn was.

"This is a rebellion, isn't it?" Jyn said in response to Mothma's observation of her past actions. She looked at Cassian, who glared in return. Jyn returned her gaze to Mothma. "I rebel."

Mothma's expression indicated to Cassian that she was not at all impressed by Jyn's attitude or words. A commanding officer stepped forward and gave Jyn her instructions; Cassian tuned him out and went over the mission details in his head. When he noticed the commander winding down, he snapped back to the present.

"Understand?" the commander asked.

"Yes, sir," Jyn said smarmily.

"The go with Captain Andor," he said, "and get prepped for the mission."

"May the Force be with you," Mothma said.

Jyn turned and strode for the door without waiting for Cassian. Cassian gave his CO a hopeless shrug and started after Jyn. At the door, a guard handed Jyn her pistol and baton. Cassian followed her out into the hall.

"Why you?" Jyn demanded.

"What?" Cassian asked, catching up with her.

"Why'd they send you along? Do they think you can control me?"

Cassian shook his head. "No, but they know you'll listen to me better than you'd listen to anyone else here."

Jyn stopped in her tracks and turned on him. "And why do you think that is, Cass?"

"Well, I'm guessing it's not because of my winning personality."

"You saved my life, Cass." Jyn resumed walking. "For that, you earned my respect and trust. Those are things I don't hand out lightly."

"I know, and I won't abuse that."

"Good."

They had made it out into the hangar by now, and dozens of pilots in orange jumpsuits were climbing into X-wings or preparing for their missions. Engineers and soldiers milled about. Jyn and Cassian strode through the hangar at a rapid clip, Jyn bobbing and weaving between people as if she owned the place. Cassian didn't have to; he was well-known enough that people got out of his way.

"So, what are we doing first?" Jyn asked.

"We'll be going to meet our team," Cassian said.

Jyn looked around at the activity in the hangar. "Our team? You mean all this has nothing to do with our mission?"

"Not exactly." Cassian gestured broadly. "This is our distraction. The Alliance is launching an offensive elsewhere to provide us the opportunity to complete our mission. Our team will be much smaller and more specialized."

"Terrific." They reached Jyn's ship. "Well, 'Captain,' let's get started."

 

Nice to see more Rogue One fic and an intriguing glimpse into what we might see.

 

Excellent - but you know I want this to expand (duh!) - great missing scene/character reveal here. We see the interplay of two strong personalities. I am loving Jyn and am more fascinated by her by the minute. Oh how I want
