    LIEDA

    PROLOGUE

The day she was born had been a wonderful, peacefully day.
Sun had shone warmly down to Coruscant and the Republic had been stabile since Chancellor Palpatine has been elected a few years ago.
Mon Mothma was alone in her apartment when the labour started, two days too late. A call and a few minutes later she had been carried down to the medical station.
Mon had given birth to a daughter and named her Lieda.
Everything from carrying out to naming the child had been Mothmas decisions.
The father hadn?t come for welcoming their daughter, nor had he any interest in the child at all. He had talked to Mon Mothma once, assuring her to help out with maintenance.
    Money.
A lot of credits per month.
The young senator of Chandrila had tried to avoid his offer but because money was the only offer she decided to take this at least.
For the child, not for her well-being.
    Everything had been a farce.
    Lieda was just the result.

It was so cold outside, but just in the outside she felt free enough to breath. Rooms, especially rooms on Coruscant made her feel unsure, sometimes even claustrophobic.
In special situations, on special occasions.

She remembered her mothers complaining that leaving a safe place for heading to Coruscant would be like committing suicide did make sense to her now.

Since she had arrived on the planet, a few weeks ago, she had been in trouble twice.
It hadn?t been her fault, but she had been at the wrong place, to a rather wrong time.
Imperial troopers had shown up in the bar she used to visit from time to time with informers. First she had thought this unknown informer had set a trap for her, but she got known that the troopers just looked up for showing presence.
The second time she had been controlled when visiting the Great Hall in the Imperial Palace. As every tourist on Coruscant normally do.
Her identity card had made some problems, but the commander had just laughed at her, assuring her that could happen sometimes. The system that read the cards wouldn?t be that new and so errors in reading might happen.
To be honest, she didn?t feel well while surrounded by troopers?

Lieda Mothma, now in her mid twenties, had fought for getting this long term mission. Even her mother?s arguments fell on closed ears. Mon Mothma had not wanted her daughter to be that close to the Rebels high ranking enemy, the Emperor Palpatine himself.
But after Lieda had been assigned to this important mission by support of the members of her own council she had agreed.

Her mission: Going undercover and search for as much information as possible. No assassination! No attempts on someone?s life, no even on Palpatines life! Even if she would have a glimmer of a chance to do so.

A last deep breath then Lieda entered her apartment again. She had lots of to do, but if she needed a break then she took it.

Her false identity named her Lilith Asnar. First she had thought about using ?Lieda? in her false identity as well, but maybe that was way too obvious if she would be spotted. ?Lieda? wasn?t that of a famous name on Coruscant.
?Lilith? on the other hand was a normal often given name on Coruscant. She once used to know a friend here that was named so; after her grandmother.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She had been given the rank of Knight just a few days ago. It was all new to her?especially when someone she had known earlier started to call her ?Master?. She disliked everything that was connected to her new rank?maybe it would have been easier if she had been raised in the temple.

But the temple was no longer and the very few Jedi that had survived Order 66 had ha no other choice than to renew the Jedi Order in the hiding.

From now on the few Knights and Masters took their Padawan at an older age or took their
own children since marriage was possible. New situations had formed new life styles although the older knights didn?t follow the advice to establish a family and get settled. Most of them got used to search for a new hiding every few years?

When she entered the Order she had been 8 years old, just after Order 66 murdered most of the Jedi. Her mother hadn?t let her go before; if she would have entered the Order earlier, so her mothers thinking, her father might have reached her or would have felt the urge to get into contact with her.
And now she would have been dead?murdered by Darth Vader like all other Younglings.

Instead she was alive and well.

To repeat my comment on ff.net, this is intriguing. And having read your other stories, I have a few guesses about where this story is going. You always come up with the most fascinating, dramatic, unique ideas.

It's hard to find authors who delve into Mon Mothma's past. Of the Amidala-Organa-Mothma trio that basically founded the Rebel Alliance, she is the one we know the least about. The attractive Senator from Chandrila remains a mystery. We don't even know her reasons for opposing the Empire [so fiercely]. And speaking of reasons ...

So she has a Force-sensitive daughter. What does she have to hide, I wonder, that she has always used her mother's last name? I sense dark secrets here ... Somehow I don't think her father was a Jedi. ;)

If my suspicions are correct (and by the way, I loved the prologue - what a nice, bitter reflection), this certainly gives us a new perspective on Mon Mothma, Leader of the Rebellion.

    II

Clouding her presence as long as possible and as best as possible was the ultimate goal she had to follow. If she would have recognized by Vader her destiny was sure. What the Emperor would do if it was him you would find her??

Nobody will find me or feel my presence on Coruscant?if I will be careful.

The Jedi Purge was long over and for years no Jedi had been discovered and executed by the Sith. Officially even Darth Vader had stopped his search for survivors of Order 66. But Lieda guessed she shouldn?t trust in these rumours?

    ?Lilith Asnar!?

Lieda looked up to the announcer, then she stood up and followed him into the office of Dr. Yorn. She wasn?t sick or even felt sick, but that wasn?t her intention why she went to him. Yorn was a member of the resistance on Coruscant. And he was that famous enough to be under the watchful eyes of the Emperor himself who had needed his medical skills more and more often over the last few years.
She entered the office; the announcer closed the door behind her and let them alone. Dr. Yorn remembered her at once.

?You?? he seemed really surprised about whom Mon Mothma was sending.
?Is that so surprising for you??
?Of course, I?ve never thought she would send her own daughter on such a dangerous mission.?
?The mission itself isn?t that dangerous, but the circumstances and the surroundings make it a bit more complicated than other missions.?
    ?You?re even sounding like her!?
?Do I?? Lieda didn?t like the fact to become like her mother or even got compared to her, ?That would make her proud and will endanger my situation here more than needed.?
?Please take a seat?, he offered her with a gesture and Lieda sat down in front of his desk.
Dr, Yorn?s office did not really show the wealth he got since he started working in the Emperors service, but his empty waiting room had proved it. Yorn had to be at the side of his employer whenever he would call him. That fact wasn?t very capable to look after other not those wealthy and famous patients.
?You?ve been already told what I?m here for?? she asked him in a quiet voice.
?Not exactly. I was told you?re looking for information. As ever.?
    ?Special information? she corrected him.
?Special information? About his health for example??
?No, that is of your concern, not mine. As much as I know there is a being somewhere in his Inner Circle who has tried to get in contact with the Alliance. But it is not clear yet if for selling information or for joining us already.?
    ?Is that so??
?I want you to establish me??
?Wait a minute? Dr. Yorn seemed to be very confused, ?Is that really your mission? Get into his catchments area? I assure you the moment you enter his room he?ll recognize??
?He doesn?t know me?he hasn?t ever seen me??
    ?You?re sure??
    ?Absolutely.?
?So,?fine?then?but I can offer you just a job here in my office rooms. There will be just little time for you to accompany me. Many of his Inner Circle are used to come by from time to time to check their health. You?ll get lots of chances for information seeking. The announcer is a sympathizer to the resistance; he?s going to show you around and will offer you assistance on your first few days.?
    ?Very well, thank you.?
?Better not thank me? he tried to laugh, ?Your cover name is a good one, by the way, both very common names. You better give me some information about your background then, some might ask me.?
    ?Should be no problem.?
?So, then?welcome to my office, Ms. Asnar.?

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lilith Asnar entered the rooms to her flat and became Lieda Mothma again. At night she was free, even felt free somehow. Of course, Coruscant was dangerous, and of course, her mission wasn?t easy to handle, but?

No ?but??I?m really nuts travelling and staying here. Since the Empire had grown out of the death shell of the Republic nobody was safe. Coruscant was not safe,?and had not been safe in the late days of the Republic.

    Thanks for the PM!

This chapter was dramatic and suspenseful. And I noticed you're giving out more clues ...

So she looked familiar to Pestage. I wonder why ...
Oh, by the way, what colour is her hair? (Actually I'm pretty sure I know the answer to that.)

Isn't it a little dangerous for her to be wearing white? Might remind someone of her mother ... In the conversation with Dr Yorn, though, she didn't sound much like her mother to me.

There's a little snag in the end, though:
The last patient left the doctor?s office and Kimea said a friendly good bye to him, then entered the office to announce Pestage.
It's Lieda, not Kimea. But when you're writing so many stories, it's undestandable that you get mixed up. :)

Dr. Yorn felt nervous each time when talking to the Grandwezir in person. But this time Sate Pestage hadn?t come for his own health but for the Emperor. Pestage was whispering although he was known for his hard consequent voice.

In republican times Pestage was often the one who acted as the Chancellors public relation advisor and had often spoken to the media. Now he was the closest and oldest friend and advisor to the Emperor. He had known Palpatine for years, for decades; Palpatine wasn?t even senator of Naboo, but a minister to the queen of Naboo when Pestage met him for the very first time.

    So long ago?

?I?m not here for my own health? he said slowly, ?His Majesty fainted away just after today?s tea. Not for long, but he fainted away completely.?
?Why haven?t you sent for me then??
    ?He didn?t want it.?
    ?Has he fainted away before??
Pestage felt silent. Dr. Yorn asked him again.
The advisor sighed: ?Yes, twice. Yesterday when he got up and last week after a glass of wine in the evening.?
?And what are you now asking me for? Advice??
?No, we want you to come and check him.?
    ?We??
?The Inner Circle asks for an appointment.?
    ?Against his will, I presume.?
Pestage sighed sadly: ?He hasn?t any confidence in medical advice, he never had.?
?I understand. When do you wish me to come along??
?Tomorrow evening. Until then he is willing for a check up.?
?I need to take a blood sample to see if everything is all right. But I?d prefer to inject him some vitamins as well, even if his sample is fine.?
    ?Yes, I tell him.?
?Very well then. Ms. Asnar will be in my company tomorrow for assisting me.?

Pestage just agreed; then he stood up and said good bye to the doctor. It was time for leave the office. If he would stay away longer Palpatine would get known about the Inner Circles intentions sooner than he should. When leaving his last look went to Ms. Asnar, the woman who he had barely seen but who remembered him of someone familiar. But Lilith Asnar smiled towards him and wished him a wonderful evening.

    Strange...

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Assisting him in the appointment with the Emperor came out of the blue to Lieda. She went white on her face, gasped a little. Yorn told her, she would meet Palpatine himself tomorrow evening.

?Maybe you should change your appearance quite a bit??
    ?Which is why??
?You are alike your mother a lot!?
She had dyed her hair once from lightly red to brown but it hadn?t fit her; last year she had also shortened it. Her eyes were of an icy blue.
?I?m her daughter? was her simple coolly answer.
?That?s just why! But I?m asking myself, and I guess I?m not the only one, who your father is.?
?I know his name and that?s everything I need to know about him.?
    ?Are you resemblance to him??
    Silence.

Lieda looked Dr. Yorn straight in the eyes; she was a bit confused. Nobody was that interested in her identity for years, especially not in the paternity.

?Mother would agree. I am alike him, or what he used to be once.?
?Is your father in the position to offer you help if you get in trouble here??
?He could, but he would not.?

Well, well... interesting. [face_mischief] You seem to be confirming what I guessed right from the start of the story.

?I know his name and that?s everything I need to know about him.?
    I would agree.

?Mother would agree. I am alike him, or what he used to be once.?
Oh? Somehow I doubt her mother knows much, in that case.

?He could, but he would not.?
Of course. A Rebel, Jedi daughter isn't exactly something he'd be proud of. More like an embarrassment ... Does he know she even exists?

Yes, the father aleady knows of her. I quote from the Prologue...

    Money.
A lot of credits per month.

I'm probably not supposed to reply again, but ...

I think you gave one clue too many in this chapter.

But if he knows about her, then what was she thinking, taking this mission? Who did she inherit stupidity from?! Oh, right, her mother ... ;) Sorry. I know that's cynical.

What is her mission, anyway? I assume it's some kind of spying. Or is she using the Alliance mission as a cover for some other agenda she forgot to tell Mummy about?

Of course you're allowed to reply again. Yeap, she inherits her stupidity from her mother :D. Her Mommy wasn't that happy about her going to Coruscant...

Her mission:"As much as I know there is a being somewhere in his Inner Circle who has tried to get in contact with the Alliance. But it is not clear yet if for selling information or for joining us already.? (Chap 2)

Yes, I've given a clue too much about her identity; but that doesn't matter for the story at all.
