    Heyas

I found this life size 3d cardboard Battle droid on ebay, that is apparently rare because it was only used to promote the phantom menace in stores, and never actually sold.

Its selling for $500 to $1000 Australian dollars (um, $325 to $650 USD).
I'm tempted to buy because of its rarity, but is it a fair price? Are these for sale anywhere else? Anyone have any experience as to its real value?

My collection is growing nicely, but no real "special" or centrepiece items do I have as yet, this might top it off.

    Thanks in advance.

Actually that is an item that I have always wanted to get but other collectables always got in the way. I would be willing to spend $500US on it. I would say that it would be worth about $650US.

Do you have a picture of it? I remember a line of 3D cardboard pieces from when EP1 one was released. While they may have been rare, they were not only used for promo purposes. (if I'm thinking about the same ones) A chain of music/comic/collectibles stores here in MA carried them. I remember thinking they were cool but really over priced for what they were.

Yeah - if you can post a pic I can look it up in one of my books..

Edit - I found the auction on Ebay. A lreal quick book search under advertising and statues didn't turn anything up. It looks like a neat figure though!

I found it on the Australian ebay site. To find it easy, search for star wars battle droid life size, that should locate it with pictures, there are 6 okish pictures. I'm reluctant to link to the site directly cos of the soliciting warning :S

I'm watching it, no bids yet. I'm of two minds. I'm an opportunistic collector (ie, like finding cheap finds hehe), the other issue is its size - my wife tolerates my collection, but a 6 ft statue might be pushing it, especially given I don't have anywhere to store it properly :S

The other part I am watching, is the Australian dollar. It has recently dropped ALOT, I checked it out, about a month ago or so, the aust dollar was close to 1 usd, now its only worth 65c or so. Hopefully it keeps dropping so it becomes a real bargain for me :D

I want to say that was used as one of the displays for the Episode I books from DK? It is pretty neat.

I have two full sets of these things: R2D2, Battle Droid, Droideka and Pit Droid unbuilt, mint in boxes. They are pretty cool as they are life size 3-D.

And your post was fine until that final line. Advertising/buying/selling isn't allowed here. See the yellow scrolling marquee at the top & bottom of the forum.

I saw your question on the life size 3D battle Droid recently. I know it was an old post but I recently found one in my spare room closet. My son worked at a video store many years ago while in college and brought it home one night. We opened it and realized how much work it was to put together and how much space it would take. We closed the box and it has been there ever since. It is in perfect condition, in the original box and has all the instructions.

And like the post above yours strayed over that line between information and advertising. Advertising is against the TOS here.

I also have one and had no idea what it was worth until now, Ive had it sitting in storage since I moved back to oregon in 99 home from seattle. Got it from the EBx store when it opened up downtown there.

And like the post above you crossed that fine line into advertising.

I don't think we need that here.
