I've heard the term "light wrap" used in reference to bluescreen compositing and I was wondering what it is exactly?

Is it a technique that is used in all bluescreen shots?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Peace :D

"Light Wrap Light Wrap solves one of the trickiest challenges of compositing - creating the illusion that light from the background layer is being reflected onto the foreground layer, as if they were photographed in the same environment. Wrap light around the edges of a foreground object so it appears lit from the environment reflecting onto it, creating a more convincing composite."

It can be found in Composite Wizard here

    " Light Wrap
Light Wrap helps integrate composite elements by glowing background light around foreground objects. In the real world concentrated light tends to scatter creating a blooming effect, which is particularly noticeable at the edges of objects. Light Wrap simulates this effect and provides many advanced features for precisely controlling how and where the light is applied. "

So we have some plugins listed there, but can it be considered a general technique?

Do you only use it for certain scenes or is light wrap something you do in all composites?

    Peace :D

There's a pretty brilliant lightwrap tutorial at Creative Cow. Doesn't even use any non-standard plugins.

    weee

edit: must make post worth something

lightwrap is usually only used when the foreground element is in front a bright background, like, for instance, Mace Windu's head in front of the jedi council chamber window, or maybe even Obi-Wan in some shots on Kamino.

Light wrap is a general technique that can be applied to most composits to better integrade the edges of compositing subject into the overall scene. The trick is to know how to do it properly and to the proper degree.

By using a very subtle light wrap effect (just one or two pixels including falloff), even when the background isn't a bright window, the edges of your composite will not look as harsh and are much less noticable. When there is a bright light being composited behind your subject, the effect can be applied a bit more liberally.

    Have fun.
