Would anyone be able to advise me on how to transport a lightsaber from Walt Disney World to New York? It was built at Savi’s Workshop. Can I ship it from my resort? Is it considered a carry-on item, or does it need to be checked at the airport? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. May the Force be with you!
Thanks. That appears to be referring to the plastic toy lightsabers that would fit into a carry-on bag. Mine was built at Savi’s Workshop. The blade does not retract into the hilt.
I remember several years ago, at a Cele. I was shipping my goodies home at a UPS store and a family came in with 5 lightsabers, they were already in boxes, but the UPS person assisted the family in carefully packing the sabers for shipment. they also got lots of insurance since these ere high end sabers.
A telescopic poster tube is also good for carrying a lightsaber. And you have a container for any art/posters you might buy.
I carried my Savi's light saber on last time I went to Disney World. I put it in the overhead compartment with my families carry on bag. The flight attendants said they see them all the time and it's pretty regular to see a ton of them on flights. I put the hilt in my bag and left the blade in the free shoulder carrier they give you. Worked out nicely. I'm buying a couple legacy sabers next week when I go so I will have to put those in my checked bag.
I spoke to a cast member at the Star Wars Galactic Outpost at Disney Springs. He said to simply bring it to the resort gift shop, and they will ship it for $17.95. That is the safest and most secure option in my estimation. Thank you all so much for your replies. Fett, thanks for being such a great TFN moderator. I do not post as often as I should, but when I do, you are always on the mark. Rox, that is very valuable information. Thanks again. Hope to see you all in Anaheim in May!
Yes, it is. My wife and I just shipped my son’s lightsaber to California. We will be shipping mine, along with my daughter’s, to New York tomorrow. I want to keep mine around for one more day. I highly recommend the experience to everyone. It was amazing.
Just an anecdotal experience, at my recentmost flight two weeks ago, there were a few folks in the TSA line at LAX with pool-noodle "bags" for a lightsaber from Savi's. Clearly from a Disneyland trip. They got through security just fine and the TSA agents were careful. I was moving out of California was carrying my lightsaber blade in a poster tube as per usual, and the TSA agent joked that I "haven't caught up with the times", pointing at the two guys with the pool-noodles.
I’m bringing a poster tube backpack and rollaboard. Are the airlines counting poster tubes as a carry on? Do i have to have my rollaboard?
Typically when I flew to conferrences with a carry-on suitcase and carried the poster tube, I'd also have a purse / small crossbody bag. So technically that is items, but never had problems. I guess it depends, how big your carry-on is.
