Lightsaber blades looked different in the original Star Wars: A New Hope

Does anyone else besides me remember that the Lightsaber blades looked different in the original releases of ANH? The Special Edition re-did the blades I think. I don't like the job currently used in the Special Edition VHS and DVD versions of ANH. Each time the lightsabers are fired up, they look totally weird and different.

Usage One: Obi-Wan gives Luke his father's lightsaber. Luke turns it on to test, waving it around. Here the blade is a light blue color, and the blade shape is weird and angular. Instead of having a cylindrical blade like normal, the blade is mostly flat. Like a ribbon. The cross-section is a semi-flat line; like a very flattened rhombus shape.

Usage Two: Obi-Wan chops down a thug in the bar. The blade looks like a fairly normal blue cylindrical shape we are accustomed to seeing.

Usage Three: Luke first turns on his lightsaber to practice blocking laser shots in the Millenium Falcon. The blade is thin and GREEN.

Usage Four: Luke practices blocking shots in the Falcon. Now the blade is thick and WHITE, and fuzzy.

Usage Five: Obi-Wan vs Darth. Obi-Wan's blade is now a darker blue than when he used it in the bar. The shape is different. Both Obi-Wan's and Vader's blades are kind of pointy; they get very thin near the tips and are fatter near the bases. The cross-sections are circular though. So they are like elongated cones. Sort of like the shape of a lance.

Unfortunately I lost access to my LD copy of Star Wars: A New Hope so I can't go back to check how the lightsaber blades were. Does anyone still have the original version and knows what the blades used to look like in each of the 5 sequences above? My memory seems to remember them just being a consistent, fat fuzzy cylindrical blue shape, which I much prefer to the *inconsistent* blades in the current releases.

I agree that the blades are very diffrent.

The DVD blades all seem to be a single fuzzy color, instead of the "colored white core" they used to be.

The only, um, improvement I guess for the DVD was in RotJ. They fixed the massive screw up in the SE where the sabers blades were altered to be gigantic nerf blades.
On the other hand, Vader now has a pink blade, so I'm not sure the trade was worth it.

There really needs to be a webpage to chronicle and document this history of how the lightsaber blades have changed in appearance with each new version of the classic trilogy.

Thanks for the link, No1Jedi! Wow that page knew many things I did not about the changes with each edition. It even remarked on lightsaber differences in RoTJ and ESB which I was not aware of (I don't have the original versions of the movies to check with anymore).

It didn't mention Luke's flat, blue, planar lightsaber in the first scene in ANH though. Did that site forget? Or possibly the sword was always like that and I remembered incorrectly.
