The older POTF2 Luke lightsaber has been re-released in ROTS style packaging, SithAboveAll...that's the one I'm guessing darthtucker is referring to. That saber was also re-released as part of the OTC and Saga lines as well.

It's a good saber, the hilt has some rough edges when compared to the newer TPM and AOTC style sabers, which can be annoying if you're going to fight with it. Other than that it's an okay saber though.

On the other hand, the Obi-Wan and Anakin/Vader ROTS sabers are all-new designs. They use LEDs instead of the older flashlight bulbs giving them a much brighter blade. This also allows them to use the smaller and lighter AA batteries. As a result they're very light, balanced, and great fun to use for re-enacting lightsaber duels.

Both the Obi & Ani/Vader sabers have different gimmicks. Obi-Wan's features a "force" vibration that some find a little too loud and can be distracting, but it's fun at the same time. The Ani/Vader has a color-changing blade which works rather well...the downside to it is that when the saber isn't lit the blade is clear, and if it's used in bright areas the blade looks more white than colored.

Does the blade go all the way into the hilt?

No....none of the Hasbro electronic sabers have a blade that goes all the way into the hilt.

If you're looking for that you'll have to either go with the non-electronic "basic" lightabers or possibly some of the more flimsy Rubies sabers (designed more for costuming than active play).
