Has anybody got references to what it might look like if someone was legitimately hit with a lightsaber?

I need decapitation, facial scarring, slash and stab wounds. Any advice for compositing in terms of practical effects in shot and post-production compositing would also be appreciated.

    Thank you.

hmm, I've been looking for the same thing... As in the inside of the arm when a saber cuts it in half

When Obi Wan slices Ponda Baba?s arm in ?a new hope? you clearly see blood on the floor. This is contradictory with the burn mark theories I?ve been seeing in the late movies, and fan movies naturally.

I feel the only reason why Anakin is alive to become Darth Vader is the capability of the lightsaber to instantly close the inflicted wound. If that didn?t happen Anikin would have bled to death. This makes the lightsaber an extremely honest weapon, able to inflict massive damage without killing a person. This however can also be used to maim and scar an opponent for life, making the saber a very cruel weapon indeed.

Check out some burn wounds, they might be usefull.

Check out "Stumped", Spiff's thread of lightsaber decapitation. Poor Phi has to lose a leg.
However, there are ways you don't have to worry about that. In Ryan vs. Brandon, they shot Ryan's head-loss from a low angle so they could just mask around his shirt collar and not have to worry about adding any sort of wound.

From a medical perspective, I can say that everything that has already been said about amputations is correct. The tissue would appear blackened and charred with minimal bleeding. With things like cuts, lacerations and punctures, the most severe burns would be at the points where the lightsaber actually touched the skin, with lesser burns radiating outwards. For example, if the main wound was a full-thickness burn, the innermost tissue would be a white-red, surrounded by raw, red blisters, followed by pinkish, sunburned-looking skin. This is a basic burn chart: http://www.burn-recovery.org/images/burn-classification.jpg

I actually created this picture for the Lightsaber Effects thread, where it also can be found by now. But I thought I would also show you this, because you'll maybe like it and be inspired by it?

To create this stump, I used an image of a "real" stump a Special FX-crew has built.

Oh, you're right. It is tissue, but it actually looks like the background was showing through. Funny, but a bit annoying, actually...

Corrin, don't you have the Episode III-DVD? If not, I could grab bigger screenshots.
