Lion King: The Musical is Racist!

I have seen this show 3 times, and each time there are casting constants.

The main cast, in the vast majority is black. The exceptions are:

Scar - evil, played by a white.
Timon and Pumba - dumb, played by whites.
some hyenas - 1 or 2 out of three, dumb and evil, played by whites.

Without exception, the noble, smart, heroic characters are played by black peoples.

It's disgusting, and something should be done. By others who can be bothered.

 

hmmm...

 

This is like the complete opposite of Jesus Christ Superstar in which Judas always seems to be black.

However, I'm sure there are some poor saps who believe that the Lion King musical is indeed racist towards white people. Which is really quite pathetic.

Scar was white (Jeremy Irons)
Bonzai the Hyena was Latino (Cheech Marin)
Ed the Hyena was white (one of the animators did all the laughing)
Timon was white (Nathan Lane)
Pumbaa was white (Ernie Sabella)

 

The Lion King is a great muscial and I really couldn't give a quiche about much else beyond that.

I saw it in London, and it was just weird to see an African story told by people with British accents, nevermind whatever race they were.

edit: Then again, I'm not sure American accents are appropriate either.
