Lisa-Marie Presley reveals Darth Vader obsession in ROLLING STONE cool issue!

I was just reading the cover story on Lisa-Marie Presley in a recent issue of Rolling Stone and was surprised to learn that she had a sort of "crush" on Darth Vader! Well, he's definitely a couple of steps up from Michael Jackson and Nicholas Cage IMO. Here's the part of the article where it's mentioned:"It is during dessert that she mentions her crush on Darth Vader. "I was obsessed with him," she says. This was only about five years ago, when her son got into Star Wars. Instead of hogging his toys, she got her own. She had a Darth Vader watch and a small Vade on her office desk that, upon the press of a button, would gesticulate with his lightsaber and tell her, "Impressive, most impressive-but you're not a Jedi yet."She also dressed up as Vader one Halloween. When I quiz her in further detail about all this, the conversation takes several strange turns.
He didn't even have a proper mouth!
"Well, I wasn't thinking that deep into it. That whole black dark thing I liked: the cape, the voice, the breathing, the whole thing."
The voice? The breathing? You imagined the two of you running away together?
"God, I wish. I just wished he was real."
Have you now moved away from the dark side?
"No. Never. God, I hope not." She considers a moment: "You know, I'm sure it's connected in some weird way to the grandness and the bigness of an earlier loss in my life. Some sort of representation of this grand, powerful... not dark and evil... but this thing in my life that went away. Andy maybe it's some twisted ****ing way to try and replace that." She shrugs. "If you want to get down to the psychology of it."
What is the grand, powerful thing? Your father?
"Yeah."
So do you think Darth Vader is?...
"No. I'm talking about somebody in my eyes that was, to me, so overwhelmingly grand and powerful-and sometimes dark, depending on mood. And there was that for the first nine years of my life. Maybe I have been in search o something like that. It's very hard to compete with that in my mind. That's what he was to me as a child-this huge, electrifyingly powerful, grand, beautiful presence. It's like a lost duckling who walks around looking for that; I'm not really doing that, but I guess in some weird kind of psychological bull****, that could be what's going on."

The more I thought about it after first reading the interview I realized Vader and Elvis do share this incredible, grand presence and larger-than-life quality. Plus, Colonel Tom Parker may have not turned Elvis to the Dark Side, but he did make him do those awful movies like CLAMBAKE and ROUSTABOUT!

 

Vader friggin' rules! I LOVE him. As for having a "crush" on him, I'd have to say no, unless you're talking about him in his AotC or Episode III incarnation.

 

Oh come on, we know you do. Admit it.

 

Have any other women out there dressed up like Darth Vader? I know I saw a picture of one in the letters page of an issue of STAR WARS INSIDER.

Yes, that was the year I saw ANH for the first time.

I still remember how I felt the first time I saw Vader striding though that door....

 

If young filmakers had done that scene today it would be in slo-mo, extremely close and with waaay overdramatic music.

 

Vader scared the heck out of me when I was young.

Despite the fact that I'm still scared of him ...he is very sexy. I can't deny it.

I always love the shots of him not saying anything and all you hear is his mechanical breathing. James Earl Jones's voice is awesome but Vader just standing there silent is really more intriguing for me you know? You're always wondering what he's thinking.

 

Well Lisa-Marie was on the Conan O'Brien show two nights ago and he brought up her "Vader crush". She seemed slightly embarassed by it and pointed out she "used" to have a crush on him. The thing about Darth V. she was drawn to was the whole "powerful, all in black, who turns out good in the end" thing. Conan suggested the heavy breathing was probably what was sexy about him!

 

OK, I'll admit it. I have a crush on Vader too. He's awesome.

 

I LOVE Vader, he's my top favorite character and always will be. However, I only have a crush on him when he's still Anakin!

 

One of the greatest revelations I have had while discovering these message boards is that I am not the only one with a crush on Darth Vader. I fell hard for him when I was 15...and it was totally embarrassing because who the hell gets a crush on VADER? Han, Luke, sure. But Vader? What's up with that?
My screen name, in fact, originated as a fanfic character who had an affair with Vader (admittedly, I didn't know how to handle the actual sex part, because of not really knowing whether it was even possible. I would have liked to think so, however.)

I suppose the fact that my father died when I was 1 has much to do with it. Since I don't remember him, he really is a faceless man in black as far as I'm concerned. Either way, Darth Vader is dead sexy and part of why I love AOTC so much is because I finally (after 25 years no less) got to see him as a viable sex object. Hayden is scarily like the young Vader I imagined. It was deeply rewarding.
