    Can someone put up a list of the stories that were in this magazine? I know that some were re-printed in Tales from the Empire, but not many.

    I'll give you the ones from the two AJ's I have, 7 & 11.

    #7
    Mist Encounter - by Timothy Zahn
    Missed Chance - by Michael Stackpole
    Retreat from Coruscant - by Laurie Burns
    Passages - By Charlene Newcomb

    #11
    Command Decision - by Timothy Zahn
    Spare Parts - by Pablo Hidalgo
    The Most Dangerous Foe - by Angela Phillips
    The Longest Fall - by Patricia Jackson

    There's more than just four stories each, though, there's a lot of WEG-style statistics and in-universe nonfiction reference materials. Each one is over 250 pages long, so it can't really be called a magazine, especially with its paperback binding.

    "in-universe nonfiction reference materials."

    How can it be nonfiction if it's about a fictional universe? When you call something nonfiction, aren't you calling it not fictional, something that is real?

    The TV Guide magazine, and Reader's Digest, etc, reach that many pages. All a magazine is a periodical that you can subscribe to, the cover quality has nothing to do with it. Adventure Journal, much like Reader's Digest, was a periodical that you could subscribe to.

    Yeah, magazine, demi-book, whatever it is, I want some, but they're like 12 dollars at the local gaming store. What are these stories about?

    Combine as needed:
    fiction = fiction
    non-fiction = non-fiction
    reference = reference
    in-universe = taking place from the perspective of being inside the Star Wars universe.

    in-universe fiction = a mass market holobook starring the little lost bantha which Leia reads to young Anakin Solo
    in-universe non-fiction = a non-propoganda documentary on the Rebellion made by New Republic historian Arhul Hexotrophan
    in-universe reference = Huttese to Old Corellian Translation Guide
    in-universe non-fiction reference = University of Sanbra Guide To Intelligent Life

    Trilobite: You can find summaries of all the in-continuity sories on the Star Wars Timeline Gold. Just do a search using edit...find for the term "SWAJ". Non-stories that still have continuity info have their continuity-related information listed as well, and any out-of-continuity, apocryphal stories, are found in the same document's Apocryphal Supplement.

    "in-universe nonfiction reference materials."

    Genghis explained it pretty well, it's fictional, but if I were in that universe, it would be nonfiction. Either way, TV guide doesn't have a paperback-quality binding the way the SWAJ does.

    "Yeah, magazine, demi-book, whatever it is, I want some, but they're like 12 dollars at the local gaming store. What are these stories about? "

    If you can find them for $12, especially some of the Zahn-related ones, it's a bargain. Command Decision was about Thrawn aboard the Admonitor on their first encounter of an unknown species on their shame-laden mapping expedition to the UR. Mist Encounter was about Thrawn's discovery by Imperials after his exile by his own people, chronologically the earliest Thrawn story yet published. Missed Chance was about Corran Horn hiding out from Kirtan Loor before finding a good way to go over to the Rebels. Retreat From Coruscant is the only story set during the evac just before Dark Empire, and features a mail courier carrying Colonel Bremen back to the fleet.

    I'll one day collect all of the AJs, but for now, I'm just settling for ones with important stories that I can't get anywhere else.

    Either way, Timeline Gold is a godsend of a fanboy reference material, and Nathan Butler is a hell of a nice guy, from my limited interaction with him.

    How about we just call it a periodical, or, even a ... JOURNAL.
