I'm new to this forum and am seriously getting into Star Wars. I understand all the plots of the movies, but I'm more interested in the philosophy of it all. I know Qui Gon Jinn was more attuned to the living force and Obi Wan more the unifying force, but what exactly does that mean ? I know GL might or might not explain it all later, but what are everyone's theories now. Thanks !

To understand better look at these first.Living Force

    Physical Force

The unifying force is a study of both, I beleive, and how the force binds all objects together, Living and inanimate.

    There ya go.

    Yup.
The Living Force theory Qui-Gon liked so much focuses on the here and now concerns.

Wheras the Unifying Force theory concerns itself with reading the future and the overall larger picture.

The Living Force is concentrated on the events and effects that are current- decisions to be made and reflexes to be attuned to life as it surrounds and pertains to the individual studying it.

The Living Force is a link to all that is existing in the moment ("..but not at the expense of the moment" to quote the famous Qui-Gon Jinn). A connection to the living world and organisms around a Force-user that are centered on beings that provide and observe during the time.

The Unifying Force is more of a generalization of the entire connection between every object and organism within the galaxy- the actual philosophy of the Force in itself.

It deals with the more intellectual and philisophical (to be redundant) side of the Force- as opposed to the previously stated Physical Force, which is the more personified and recognizable form because of its visual and corporeal effects upon a user/observer.

The Unifying Force is the binding of all that is within the galaxy- whether it be herd of Bantha, a lone nuna, or even a thought within the mind of a sentient being.

The Unifying Force is what the future holds, the past memorializes, and the moment creates.

    ;) :)
