Is anybody a fan of Lobot? I think he deserves more credit. He allowed Chewie, Lando, Leia, and Threeps to escape to rescue Luke and ultimately find Han. Thoughts?

I had the action figure back in the eighties. I accompanied Lando with him often. Sometimes even on his own adventures in the twin pod with a single Bespin Gaurd with him.

I know the EU says he survived the Imperial occupation, but what book mentions that?

He was alive during the Black Fleet Crisis, but I don't know what book mentioned him escaping Cloud City.

I myself never really liked Lobot too much, perhaps because he never talked. He seemed to stiff to not be an Imperial and instead a good guy.

Because a man does not speak does not mean he lacks interest or intelligence.....

Lobot was weird. Was he human or a cyborg? And what was that thing on his head?

I love the bit where Lando is slowing turning around to Lobot, the music builds up, and he looks at Lando at the very last moment by shifting his eyes. It works really well with the music.

So because of that, Lobot is cool.

West End Games had a profile on Lobot. He was a juvelile delinquent who lived on Cloud City and got injured in some kind of accident. The Administrator before Lando had Lobot's cranium rebuilt, giving him direct access to the city's central computer system and giving him the position as the Administrator's Aide.

But that Administrator was corrupt and Lobot despised him. Lobot helped Lando win the city in a card game, and the two formed a great partnership, bringing Cloud City to a new age of prosperity.

I, too, like that part where Lando looks over at Lobot and Lobot looks over at him, perfectly timed to the music. Very dramatic. I also like when Lando, Leia, Chewie and the Imperials are walking down the hall and Lando enters a code into that Dick Tracy gadget on his wrist. Then we cut to Lobot, whose eyes open and his head thing lights up. Sweet. Lando text-messaged directly to Lobot's brain!

Yes! Awesome responses. I enjoyed all of those scenes as well. The return of Lobot! He should have joined the rebels as well. Sort of like snake eyes in G.I. Joe.

He should have gone with the rebels at the end, and been Lando's co-pilot in ROTJ.

Lobot's outfit was a bit effeminate with those puffy sleeves. What, did he think he was a ****ing priate or something?

IIRC, Lobot's cyborg headset was not from an accident but it was a choice giving to him by the Cloud City courts to either let the doctors implant it or face a stiff jail sentence for a crime he committed as a youth.

If you think pirates are "effeminate" then you've got some other issues.

I think Lobot is my favorite of the non-speaking Star Wars characters (even better than Bossk). The guy is all about his business. He commands troops with the power to make stormtroopers give up without objections. Do not mess with the Lobot.

I think he does take it off in the Black Fleet Crisis, but he doesn't enjoy not having it on.

What issues would those be? Anti-pirate bigotry? How will I ever cope with these serious issues?

Pirates sail the seas in puffy outfits and are probably puffers themselves. Lobot looks like a queer space pirate.

I wouldn't call all pirates macho men. Surely Cap'n Jack Sparrow wasn't your typical image of a burly man. ;)

I liked Lobot. I appreciate a character who can visually act as well as he can verbally, and the body language was extremely well done there. (Of course, that movie had alot of great body language from most of the characters. Vader's contemplative walk from the bridge of the Executor at the end still gives me shivers. :) )

In my insanely long review of the Star Wars films that is posted on my website (address in my signature)...I mention that LoBot is one of the most underappreciated characters in the saga.

    LoBot rules!

Lobot kinda creeped me out. Noting his tell-tale name of 'Lobotomy' I feel for the man that he 'lost his mind' so to speak.

Then there's the whole ironic slave concept where Lando's telling the dude what to do by the push of a button.

    Creepy sci-fi.

Also, I'm not a fan of his EU backstory, can't say I care much for a justice system that pulls a 'Hannibal' on your cortex.

However, on the flipside of Lobot. There is a great 'efficency' to the dude. In a way I consider Cloud City to be Lobot's TRUE brain and he's just a neuron that moves about it.

The two can't 'function' without the other.

Also, Lobot's a bit of a homage to Lucas's first film THX-1138. The shaved head, programmed society, hell, Lobot is a 'sketch' to what the Clones represent in Eps 2-3. Programmed servants.

In the novel/comic he had speaking lines but was ultimately cut from the film. I suppose as a matter of artistic flare it adds to the character but I'd have liked to see evidence that he was more sentient and 'free' then he appears.

Lobot is "the man"; an interesting character, even though he didn't say much.

If you're an EU fan, there was a Marvel comic that took place after ESB, in which Lando went back to Cloud City to find it almost deserted, and at one point a crazed, malfunctioning Lobot attacks him. Lando eventually repairs Lobot, and he goes back to being his cool-as-cucumber self - he and Lando then team up to fight some Imperials who are also on Cloud City.
A good couple of issues, and worth checking out - these were reprinted in Dark Horse's Marvel Reprints that came out back in 2002-2003, "Classic Star Wars: A Long Time Ago".
