In TPM there is a scene where a Naboo guard closes one of the doors in, if memory serves, the Theed Palace. This very large, massive door slides down really, Really, REALLY fast. I'm talking "if you happen to be running toward the doorway at the wrong moment no motion detector is going to save you" fast. You'd be crushed in an instant.

I think there was a similar door on the Death Star in ANH that closed extraordinarily fast.

Two ton doors that close from top to bottom at 150 miles per hour. What gives?

The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.....

You mean like closing doors really really fast?

    Precisely!

The doors did that rancor at jabba's in, too. (slower they were, though.)

Well, I'm not surprised that there are doors like that in a military facility, but in a royal palace? I mean, what if some kid was playing around with it?
But hey, it's Star Wars. Things are supposed to be dangerous!

    Lightsabers are extremely dangerous

Not only that, did you see the guard running to close the door? He almost slipped ... in fact he did slip a little. He was almost a goner.

A little known fact is that the Noobian culture has invested Billions of its Credits...18% of its GPP (Gross Planet Production) into the development of very high tech door mechanisms. After so long of hearing of this technological marvel, it was an exhausting thrill to see it on the screen. That was the baddest door ever shown on the big screen...bar none.

It may have only been used in emergency, I.e to keep the queen safe from assassins.

Yes I can already here it "But Sarg_Kulo, Naboo was a peacefull planet [face_batting] ."

The doors were designed by the same guy who thought it was alright to have thin bridges with no railings over bottomless chasms in the Death Star.

My guess is that they are security doors. After all it is in the Queen's Throne room. If an invading force is advancing on the throne you dont want to be fumbling with a slow door, you want an instant seal.

As far as the one in TPM goes, Panaka said "Jam the doors!" I assumed the jamming had something to do with the speed it closed at, and that it wouldn't have closed so quickly under normal circumstances. I definitely noticed the speed of that door. I thought some of the ones on the Death Star acted that way simply because it was the best the effects could offer at the time (similar to the way the screen jumps when the lightsabers ignite and deactivate sometimes).

The doors are used for high security purposes for the Queen, when trouble lurks. There is not time for a slow door to close when fast droids are pouncing in. A fast, crush door can make life and death more easily determined. I don't think a kid would be in the room fiddling with it and it is only works that way after a guard override's the door's safety locks to security locks. Just my opinion.

This "guy" is also the same guy that decided to place a huge opening that leads straight down towards the main reactor in the middle of the Emperors throne room.

    what a guy!:)

Massive blast doors leading to the bridge of a Federation Starship.

Doors? What doors? Hell, it's just an aircraft for God sake! Why bother with something like doors?
