I remember reading about a fleet of Correlli Stardrive Dreadnaughts that was lost years before Star Wars. The crews of the ships went insane, slaved their ships' control systems together, and jumped into hyperspace. I think it was called the Katana Fleet. The cloned emperor recovered most of the ships, and I think they were supposed to be evil or something to that end. Can anyone tell me more?

Replace "clone Emperor" with Grand Admiral Thrawn and you got the basic idea.

Grand Admiral Thrawn made off with most the Dreadnaughts of the Katana fleet, not the cloned Emperor.

Yeah, Bel Iblis already had 8 of 'em.
And then the Empire made of with 150 of 'em I think. I could be wrong

Interesting So what exactly happened to the ships? I remember Black CS Dreadnaughts, with insane crew members. I got that out of the Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels, so I don't know the whole Katana story. Can you guys clear that up for me?

The cdrews slaved the hyperdrives after going crazy. They just jumped to a empty spot in the galaxy.

I say they belongedd to the OR, and were its last attempt at a "large" stanidng military. But thats just my theory.

the fleet was lost Ten years before the clone wars. one guy got a hive virus and it spread to the entire fleet. this was a particurally nasty virus that drove its hosts crazy before it killed them. seeing as the fleet was slave rigged togather when someone on the Katana (flagship) set in a random course the entire fleet jumped away.

The OR did not have a navy that size 10 years before the Clone Wars.

i look at it this way, Zahn wrote that and it was published in 1993, so i take that over the PT and what it says.

Well, some of the dates from Zahn's books need to be changed to reflect the new prequel information. In any case, they could have been a part of the Republic Outland Defense Force, or one of the other navel bodies that serve the Republic (although the Republic doesn't have a standing army of navy, it does have Drednaughts at it's command. See Rouge Planet.)

I believe Rogue Planet is chronologically the first source to mention that the Republic has Dreadnaughts in its fleet, so they were probably lost in the time between TPM and AOTC.

The Dreadnaughts probaly belonged to the Outland Regions Defense Force,or one of the Republic's many planetary security forces.

Probaly Coruscant's Security Force. I bet it has a large fleet and is under the control of the senate (Valorum had to entreat the senate to to send the Navy to Yinchorr, though they could've sent the Outland Regions Defense Force)

The Katana Fleet was the SW version of the Great White fleet, with the exception of the crews going crazy and the fleet being lost for years, of course.

According to my memory, and a Dark Force Rising book, the New Republic had 15 out of 200 Dreadnoughts left to take. And Bel Iblis had 6, not eight of them.

Yes, Bel Iblis had 6 of them, and when the NR reached the site, there were 15 of them left, one of which was used to ram the Peremptory. So Thrawn must have gotten away with 179 of the ships.

All I know about the time-frame is that it was pre-clone wars.

The Katana fleet was found first by Talon Karrde on a smuggling run gone sour. One of the other crewmen remembered the site as well, and later sold the information to Grand Admiral Thrawn. Thrawn was badly in need of capital ships, and was moving the dreadnaughts out when the New Republic showed up (too late).

If you want to know the story/history of the Katana fleet, it can be found in "Dark Force Rising," the second novel in the Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn. Hope that helps.

Stackpole mentions the Katana Fleet about seventy times in his stories for laughs. Y'know: "We might as well try finding the Katana Fleet." Ha ha ha. It was funny the first time, but after the sixty-second... ;)

    Hi

I don't thinkt hat people should try to tie the Katana fleet in too tightly with AOTC and Rogue Planet.

The news that a fleet of Dreadnoughts have been lost would have been hushed up in the bureaucrey because it would have been very embarasing.

Once they had been discovered, they were included into the fleets of both the Empire and (over time as they got captured) the New Republic. By the time of the NJO, very few would have been left in any kind of condition to fight the Vong.
