He says absolutely "he has powers" that can save her.

What powers did Anakin finally discover before Padme died?

Very odd line. Either he did discover a power to cheat death and was never able to implement it because Padme died outside of his presence. Or, he is speaking about the secret Qui Gon learned.

He does know. He wouldn't kill Plagueis without getting that knowledge. He also knows that once Vader gets it, he's gonna get killed, so why would he tell him?

And Anakin doesn't know how to do anything diffrent yet. He's simply opened himself up to the vast power of the Darkside. The above poster is right, he has the power, but no knowledge of how to use it yet.

Sounds to me like Sidious has no clue and was baiting Anakin from the start with no intent on helping him save Padme.

 

Vader was just talking out of his arse. He ate every word Sidious said about discovering this "power" through the dark side, and he was naive enough to believe that garbage. The dark side is only useful in destroying lives, not saving them.

This line was important. It showed how far off course Anakin drifted. He became so obsessed with the idea of Padme dying and so drunk with power that he missed the solution to the problem. Padme didn't die of physical injuries. "She lost the will to live." She died of a broken heart.

Love was the only thing that could have saved her.

Anakin's turn to the Dark Side, embodied by his statement that love couldn't save Padme, is what caused Padme to lose her will to live.

I disagree.

The darkside doesn't "destroy" lives, the user does. To me, it is the intent of the power that determines it's force siding. It is how you access it.

I think the dark side is able to save lives. Very much so. The dark side is focused on maintaining a powerbase and growing it. It is bending the forces will and denying it - rather than unifying with it (as is the way of the Jedi).

Keeping yourself and others alive, rather than letting them pass on and become one with the force (and consequently would be the will of the force - as death is a natural part of physical life) is the ULTIMATE power. You have become a physical god, that can kill and maintain those around you.

Strong am I with the Force... but not that strong! Twilight is upon me and soon night must fall. That is the way of things ... the way of the Force.

That is a Jedi mindset. Not to prolong life indefinitely.

Okay, ready? He's lying.

The power to cheat death is the one thing Anakin wants. Once Sidious teaches him, guess what, Anakin no longer needs him. It's good night Sidious!

- Sidious says he learned this power to cheat death.
- Sidious says he never learned this power to cheat death.

He's lying one of these times. Why are you assuming it's the first and not the second?

Well, I think this one goes back to the already debated life saving power of the Plagster.

 

GTyper, we've seen nothing come out of the seduction of the darkside besides pain and suffering. The path to "immortality" was unlocked not through lust for power, as Qui-Gon knew nothing of such things.

 

Sidious "I can feel your anger...It makes you focus. It makes you stronger..."

At that point, Anakin felt invincible. He thought he could control everything.

 

Here's a question along this line.

If Anakin is convinced his powers can save Padme, what use does he have for those powers when she is gone?

Does he think that through the dark side he can someday bring Padme back or help her to immortality? And that is what he is waiting all those years for?

Or does he think that despite his powers to cheat death, his anger killed her and that anger was induced by the Jedi and new "separtists"?

In other words, what is his motivation once Padme is gone? Seems the whole purpose for his new powers is gone.

 

"Love won't save you, Padme. Only my new powers can do that."

This is by far one of the most brilliant lines in all 6 movies. It seems to be a cheesy line at first, but after much contemplation, it is sheer genius! It shows the madness and insanity of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader.

Palpatine: (Wide-eyed) Yes... um, instead of that... look I have a ball! (Pulls a shiney red ball from his pocket.)
