Has anyone given this a try yet? It’s another anthology series on Netflix. So far I’ve only watched the first episode. It had some well done animation, cyborg monster fighting and boobs. I’m pretty sold on watching the rest based on that one episode.
I think I got through the whole series in about 35 minutes. Some of these vignettes are reallllllllyyy short. It reminds me of the 1981 Heavy Metal - subclassic R rated animated sci fi/horror anthology - deliciously pre-CGI Photorealistic CGI has certainly come a long way since Final Fantasy, The Spirit Within. We may be 10 years away from being completely unable to tell when a CGI human character is dropped into a live action film. Still, some of the segments feel too much like watching videogame cutscenes. It's ok sci fi - nothing earthshattering or novel. The vampire story is terrible.
If you liked it check out Whatever, John Scalzi's blog. Three of the eighteen episodes were based on short stories of his. Just a language note - his site has words not allowed here. Other than language the site should be safe for work.
My girlfriend insisted that we watch the series together, so i've only gotten through the first three so far. I enjoyed all three for very different reasons. The first felt like it was happening in an actual sci-fi world that could be expanded out into a series. The second had the best characters by far, and I loved all their banter. And the third had the best art style, which was absolutely gorgeous.
Loving all of it even if it's too intellectual for me and I have to pause it all the time to check google for the big words they keep using.
Well unless the legal age in your state is 17, I'd make sure the only thing you're doing is watching the episodes.
This is the kind of thing that Netflix should do more of - genre anthologies! Love/Death/Robots is essentially an animated Ballad of Buster Scruggs of a Different Genre, but with less no thematic unity other than it's mostly hard-ish sci fi. I guess people might say the thematic unity of Black Mirror can get tedious.
2 episdoes in and I quite enjoyed it. It takes a huge tonal gearshift between ep 1 and ep 2 but I like wide swings like that. the 1st episode is basically everything the title states with some very good looking splatter. 2nd one is a goof but a very funny goof. Also the tiny robot in the 2nd ep is voiced by the actor who plays Nekku on Star Wars Resistance and he has some excellent line deliveries.
I watched the first three, all very enjoyable, with the second one being my fave. But is there any reason female nudity is necessary? At least throw a few disallowed word in there for equality. Edited for disallowed word - HealerLeona
Alternate Histories is easily my favorite episodes. I'd like to see Sandra Bullock's character and the Helping Hand character trade stories about that one time when they got stranded in low earth orbit during a spacewalk. Spoiler alert: Sandra Bullock's character is a wimp.
I know this is an old thread (considering it's a series that's already three years old), but I've only started watching the series every day for the past couple of weeks. I understand it's based on short stories; but I haven't read any of them so it's all new to me. My favorite episode to date is Sonnie's Edge. Just a compelling story with an interesting, albeit mysterious character, with an amazing ending.
I enjoy most of these. From the latest batch I really enjoyed Bad Traveling (I guess everyone did lol), The Very Pulse of the Machine, Kill Team Kill, and Mason's Rats.
It's an easy show to binge-watch, considering most episodes run under 20 minutes. You can watch a handful of them over the span of just an hour.
I only have two episodes left for season 3. They’re all pretty enjoyable for the most part. I always recommend it. It’s like animated black mirror light.
Snow in the Desert from season 2 felt very Starwarsy in that every other character was a bounty hunter. Thanks Star Wars for making bounty hunters a thing that has to be in science fiction.
Bad Traveling (first one to be directed by Fincher himself!) and Jibaro are probably my two favorites from this current crop of episodes. Night of the Mini Dead is a blast, too. Hope Fincher & Miller get a fourth volume off the ground. It's still very cool to me that we actually got this show out of the ashes of Fincher & Miller's canceled Heavy Metal reboot to begin with.
I'm not taking into account which seasons these episodes are from (just watching them in order). I just watched a few more, including Lucky 13. That's definitely among my favorites along with Sonnie's Edge. The Three Robots episodes are amusing; where they go around to a handful of places in an apocalyptic Earth.
Just watched The Pop Squad episode. Probably among the most disturbing episode I've seen to date. I mean the concept seems like it's been shown in films before (limits to having children); but this one takes it a step further. Spoiler People are living forever, and there's a law against having children. Apparently this "Pop Squad" goes around looking for illegal "breeders"; arresting the parents or guardians and killing the children on the spot. Yeah, disturbing to say the least.
Just watched the final episode available. I'd say my picks for favorite episodes are: 1) Sonnie's Edge 2) The Drowned Giant 3) Lucky 13 Runners up include the Three Robots episodes and Mason's Rats.
