The Naboo night was quiet as even the birds began to settle in for an evening's rest. Inside the lake retreat, the only sounds that broke the stillness were the breathless sighs and urgent whispers of affection shared between lovers kept too long apart.

Beneath the twisted blankets that served as their only shelter from the scrutiny of the galaxy and their lives beyond this bedchamber, Anakin Skywalker kissed his wife's shoulder hungrily, his constant need for her still unsatiated by their earlier lovemaking. And when the regal senator at his side wriggled free from his embrace to slip the tiny silken strap of her nightdress back upon her shoulder, he groaned in frustration at his interrupted quest.

Padmé Naberrie, Naberrie-Skywalker as she was known within these sacred walls, gave an uncharacteristically girlish giggle as she once again settled herself contentedly within her husband's arms.

"I should think by now you would have satisfied your appetite for me, [i]Knight[/i] Skywalker."

"Never," he growled against her throat as he nuzzled the tender flesh. But he couldn?t prevent the tiny smile that played across his lips at her words.

Anakin savored the very sound of the still unaccustomed honorary. Had it truly been only a week ago that the Jedi Council had finally acknowledged his worth? During the ancient ceremony conducted in the privacy of the Council chambers, his Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi, had at last severed the Padawan braid that Anakin had always viewed as a barrier between the Chosen One and his destiny. It had been a bittersweet moment for Anakin, made so by the fact that the woman he loved more than life itself had not been present for this most important rite of passage. For his love, and subsequent secret marriage to Padmé, was forbidden by the very Code that he had sworn to uphold.

The newly knighted Jedi's spirits had been lifted considerably, however, when the Council had announced to Anakin that he had been granted a two-week leave of absence, a well-earned rest meant to recognize his new status within the Jedi Order. With hurried words of gratitude, an excited Anakin had raced from the Council chambers to pack his belongings, ignoring his Master's suspicious stares in his haste to be by her side once again. And once he had arrived at their safe haven, he had not allowed her out of his sight for more than a moment; desperate to make up for the time together they had lost. And make up for it they had ? talking, laughing. Loving.

For the past seven days, nothing else had existed beyond this the shores of their own private island. Now, however, even Anakin was forced to admit that their endless days and sleepless nights spent becoming reacquainted with one another were beginning to take their toll as he tried unsuccessfully to stifle a great yawn.

Nestled against his side, Padmé felt her husband stretch his body wearily, and she looked up at him, an expression of guilt tugging at the corners of her mouth. "Anakin," she admitted in a sleepy voice. "I'm tired."

In spite of his fatigue, Anakin laughed at his wife's confession. "I know, angel. So am I. Perhaps we should both try to get some sleep." He graced her with a roguish grin. "We can continue this in the morning."

"You are such a scoundrel," Padmé teased as she shoved him playfully in the chest.

Anakin laughed conspiratorially at this. Then kissing his wife tenderly

this was just hilarious with husband and wife fighting over sleeping arrangements!! i had always imagined that they would fight over things like this. and you've done an excellent job on showing us a peek into the lives of the skywalkers !!!

 

Maybe this is why the Order forbids attachments, he mused as he rolled his eyes in frustration. If Jedi were allowed to marry, we'd all be too exhausted to defend the Republic.

Oh Gina!! This was absolutely hysterical. Not only because it was great seeing our favorite couple trying to get used to the mundane aspects of being together, but also how much it brought back for me personally. I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. I especially loved it when Anakin got up to hand her some socks. Seems like us men tend to be hot whenever our ladies are freezing cold. I could also related with his frustrations, as I too need to have my own 'personal space' when sleeping. This was absolutely wonderful. Excellent job!

 

Oh God, I laughed so hard.

I just loved this. Looking into their daily life is always interesting.

Although, I?m not sure who I feel sorry for, both of them can be so stubborn sometimes.

Gina, this was great! I have to say, been there, done that. I remember what it was like to deal with all that stuff. It's great to see the Skywalkers have the same problems.

Hee!!!! Oh, Gina - you have just perfectly captured many a night between Mr. VA_Parky and me. Too funny!!! I can't tell you how much I adored this.

How nice to see my favorite couple being just... normal. As funny as it was, there was also such an underlying sweetness. For that brief moment they were just like any other married couple in the Galaxy. Awwwww.

You sure do know how to write Ani/Padme. God, I love your stories - and this vignette was just STELLAR!

Anakin snoring? oh what a sight!

i love Padme's "innocent act" and of course, the whole "i need my space when i go to sleep" predicament. i gotta say. i'm SO with Anakin on that one

Hahaha, I can just imagine Anakin snoring... and Padme going nuts about it!

Actually, I really can - my nephew (6) has a terrible snoring problem, and you can clearly hear it, even when all the doors are shut. (and over headphones)

 

A lovely if funny insight on the galaxy's star-crossed
lovers,I found this scene especially funny.

Men eh? Who can blame Anakin though. You have certainly captured the husband and wife sleeping

Using his free hand to remove a mass of Padmé's dark curls from his mouth, an irritated Anakin tried to ignore the beads of perspiration that were already breaking out on his forehead.

The socks, the snoring, everything - just priceless. I love how you captured the feel of 'normal' married life as experienced by the Skywalkers. Poor people.

Finally, a REALISTIC look at married life!

All was silent as both lovers finally slipped into a fitful slumber. A short time later, however, Padmé was awakened by a strange noise emanating from the other side of the bed. Blinking her eyes in sleepy confusion, Padmé turned over, expecting to see a baby bantha lying next to her in the dark night. She waited for the noise to repeat itself and soon she saw Anakin's chest rise mightily. When he exhaled, however, it was with a great rattling snort.

Clapping her hands over her ears, Padmé grimaced at the head-splitting sound. Using her elbows and knees, she turned Anakin's body away from her and onto his side. The horrible snoring stopped, and Padmé smiled blissfully at the peaceful silence. Her head had barely touched the pillow, however, when Anakin let out another snore, this one louder than all the rest. Gritting her teeth in determination, Padmé placed her feet firmly against Anakin's back and gave a great shove.

Anakin's body fell to the floor with a resounding thump, and Padmé clapped her hand over her mouth in horror.

"Wh-what's going on?" Anakin called sleepily from atop the lush carpet.

Padmé threw herself against the pillow and shut her eyes tightly just before Anakin's head rose above the bed. "Anakin?" she called, feigning a yawn. "What happened? Why are you on the floor? Oh, you poor thing, you must have fallen out of bed."

Anakin pulled his body up from the floor, swaying dangerously in his exhausted state. "I guess so?" he mumbled sleepily as he crawled back into the bed, scratching his head in confusion.

I warm up my feet on my husband's warm body, too! Isn't that what he's there for?

You already know how much I love this one! Absolutely HILARIOUS!

 

This was too funny. I think that this more acuractly describes their (or anyone's) marriage.

I thought it was hilarious when Padme pushed him out of the bed and then pretended she didn't know what happened.

Author's Note: I had so much fun writing this little fic that I have decided to turn this into a series of humor vignettes. So, Territorial Disputes is now the first entry in what I hope will be a realistic but humorous look at married life for the Skywalkers. Some of the entries may stray into AU territory, but I plan to keep most of them within canon. Thanks again to everyone for reading!
