Exclusive: A 60% share of THX has been sold to Creative Labs for the sum of $8,000,000 ? that is the news reaching us here at High Fidelity Review from a number of reliable industry sources.

The THX division of LucasFilm is responsible for schemes as diverse as commercial theatre alignment, hardware licensing (both commercial and domestic), playback technology development and software certification. The THX Theatre Program works with the exhibition and post-production community around the world to deliver the ultimate cinema experience by building certified theatres that adhere to comprehensive and proprietary THX standards and in the last few months, THX has expanded this program to incorporate digital cinema presentation....

Hopefully, it won't affect LucasFilms/THX anything... but Better/enhances Personal Computers Audio software/hardwares.

How this will affect the research and design teams at LucasFilm remains to be seen, but one would expect to see their existing close relationship between the motion picture industry and hardware manufacturers remain as the driving development audio/video force at the newly combined subsidiary, while Creative?s contacts in the multimedia market will undoubtedly expand the market for THX certified personal computers.

BTW, THX is just a certification, it doesn't mean much as far as they don't sell actual speakers!

I hope SoundBlaster don't put up crappy softwares and Audio cards, and declares it THX certified... if they want to say their card/speaker is THX certified, they better be REALLY GOOD stuff!!!

Yeah I hope THX does not become the equivilent of "MMX" (Intel, AMD). I do not have a good feeling about this at all. It would be one thing if a company like Bose purchased it but seeingCreative take over this is like K-Mart taking over Sotheby's.

MMX has nothing to do with AMD. It was Intel's idea in the first place and AMD had to adopt it in order to better market their chips.

I think it'll do THX better, granted I'm worried about Creative Labs intentions... but THX doesn't make lot of money, since it'e mainly geared toward movies and custom recivers/speakers... I would like to see some THX quality pc/home speakers that don't cost me 4000 just for a reciver...

Pointing out your erroneous association of AMD with the crap that Intel puts out.

Ii is NOT IN ERROR if AMD EMPLOYED it into their chipset, which they did. It's sitting here in my CPU case. Would you like a screenshot of the motherboard?

Is THX an actual company with employees or is it a brandname? Both?
