For a bit of fun I thought about a different way for Luke to get to Dagobah. Not being a master of canon it may have problems, but it was cool to think about and the best bit is (IMO) that it further enhances R2's role in the saga.

Out in the snow Ben appears to Luke at tells him to go to the Dagobah system. When Luke repeats "yoda"..."dagobah" that sounds a bit like a plot device so that we "know" Luke will remember where he has to go.

In my version, Luke does not repeat Ben's instructions but simply passes out.

    ==================

[Luke has just been taken out of the Bacta tank and is asleep in the recovery room, surrounded by his friends].

Suddenly Luke wakes up, still a little groggy from his encounter
    Luke (shouts): Dagobah!
    Han: What's he saying?
Luke: Dagobah, I must go to Dagobah.
Leia: What does he mean? What do you mean Luke? Is Dagobah a star system?
Han: Never heard of it. What do you mean Luke old buddy?

At this point Luke clears his mind and is rather confused as to why he blurted it out.

    Luke: I...don't know.
Han (trying to pass it off lightly): I guess the cold got to you more than we thought, eh?

[Later, Luke, obsessing with Dagobah is in the 'computer room' trying to find references. 3PO is behind him, looking over his shoulder]

Luke: Damn! Why I can't find anything on Dagobah?
3PO: Sir, is it possible that you simply dreamed it when you were unconcious?
    Luke: No...I don't know...but it's important. I don't know why, but it is.

[At this point R2 sidles up to 3PO]
    R2: dooowiiit-doobeee-parp
3PO (quietly): Oh I'm afraid Master Luke seems to be still a bit confused after his ordeal. He thinks he needs to go somewhere called Dagobah, but there is no mention of it on any computer system.
    R2: meep-beep-whistle
3PO (out loud): What's that? You know about Dagobah?

[Luke spins around in his chair and grabs R2]

Luke:R2. What do you know about Dagobah? Tell me!
    R2: fweep-bee-blurp-doowit
3PO: He says that if you need to go there, he can take you.

    ======================

Now I really like the idea of R2 having much more knowledge about the past than he lets on (or is instructed to let on). To me it makes a good connection between PT and OT.

Anyway, there it is, hope you liked it.

Interesting. Could work. Reminds me of the Kamino research Obi-Wan did (espicially if you watch the deleted scenes) in AOTC.

Yoda never mentioned Dagobah in ROTS though. He just said he'd go into exile. Heck it's possible that even Obi-Wan didn't know where Yoda was until he died and became some omniscient ghost.

yeah cool idea but then we'd have to see something in ROTS to indicate that R2 knows the location. Yoda would have to tell him or something or else it wouldn't make sense why only r2 would know the location.

    Ummmm....

"You will go to the Dagobah system. There you will learn from Yoda: the Jedi Master who instructed me."

EDIT: My above statement...I misread what you said. I thought you were speaking of Yoda dying before Obi-Wan knew where he was.

And I could very well be mistaken, but I believe Yoda made a refence to Dagobah in ROTS...haven't seen it in about four months so I could be wrong.

I don't think R2 would have told him ANYTHING from that period, even if Luke was close to finding out. R2 seems to be a very good secret keeper, because even in the EU, he's just now beginning to reveal a bit of knowledge about 35 years ABY. The scene is fine the way it is, in fact, I would be afraid your scenario would take too much time to explain movie wise.

No, Dagobah was not mentioned in ROTS.

As I recall, Yoda said he was going into exile/hiding, but didnt explicitly say where. It is conceivable, though, that Bail could have taken him to Dagobah, and R2 knowing from that.

I like your little scenario, and for the most part it would fit well... but personally, I like it the way it is too much to change the scene.
