Alright, so Luke and his gunner a making a run against the walkers. Dack tells Luke that there's a malfunction in fire control and says he needs to cut in the auxillery. Well, Skywalker ignores his plea and tells Dack to stay on target. Is it possible that because Luke didn't let Dack cut in the auxillery power that his control board exploded and killed him, thus laying the blame on Luke? Thanks.

You can't really blame Luke for it. It was a judgement error in the midst of battle.

Don't blame Luke for Dack's lack of ability.

Nah, Dack/Dak/whatever was fine. Until he got smashed by the walker. But other than that, just a few burns.

Luke didn't kill Dack. They were both soldiers fighting a war and soldiers die in war. And they had a job to do, one so important they couldn't go ground side for repairs and a malfunction doesn't mean that they'll get the computer system fried.

Luke didnt even check for a pulse...

But seriously I always thought Luke was trying to pull him out before the walker got there.

"I feel like I could take on the whole Empire myself!"

Luke couldn't let Dack destroy the entire group of walkers and become the new hero. So he snuck out of the medical bay when the droids that attended the facility weren't looking and went to the hangar where they kept the snowspeeders. When he got there, he messed with Dack's control panel.

"I have no approach vector. I'm not set."

"There's a malfunction in fire control. I'll have to cut in the auxiliary."

Look at Farmboy's face when Dack says that he'll "cut in the auxiliary." He's clearly thinking: "Sithspit, I forgot to mess with the auxiliary as well!"

In order to rectify this problem, Luke has a Rebel sharpshooter at the front lines or one of the Rogues (maybe Wedge, Zev, Hobbie, or all three) shoot Dack (His signal to go ahead with the assassination is "Go for the legs. It may be our only chance at stopping 'im" obviously using the word "legs" as a code-word for "Dack"). After all, notice that Luke is facing toward the walkers, not away from them.

Finally, in order to destroy the evidence, the Rebellion and the Empire have made a secret pact. Luke's speeder is damaged just enough for him to survive. Luke escapes, leaving the speeder, poor Dack, and evidence of a conspiracy to be crushed by an Imperial walker.

The Imperials are also very happy to help Luke reclaim the mantle of Hero of the Rebellion from Wedge by taking on a walker single handedly. His feat of destroying the walker with a single charge eclipses Wedge & Janson's feat of tripping a walker. But think about it, that walker explodes way too easily with Luke's little charge. The walker was obviously loaded from fore to aft with explosives. It is obvious that the Imperials who were complicit in Dack's death needed to be killed as well.

    That's what I always thought!

But now, I think the walker just shot up the back of the speeder real good.

Sadly, the original post is wrong.

'Star Wars, Complete Fully Illustrated Screenplay' Book. P.32:

Luke - Just hang on. Hang on Dack. Get ready to fire that tow cable"
Dack, sitting behind his harpoon gun, is hit by a volley of fire.

    "Volley of fire".
Dack ISNT hit by his own malfunction, he is hit by a volley of Imperial fire from outside the Snowspeeder.
As far as Luke goes, Dack was dead, not unconscious. "Ive lost my gunner". Dack is dead. I would have thought the lingering camera shot on MArk Hammils face when he calls Dacks name, and the look of dread and dramatic music, would have given this away!
This wouldnt have been there if Dack was simply 'unconscious'.

Although your all are correct. You really can't blame Luke. A single blast for a walker destroyed manyt a speeder. Call it luck, but I think having your tail shot off might cause a little more damage tan just killing a gunner. Just a thought.

He did. The blast was from one of those satellite dish looking guns the rebels were using. He was killed by friendly fire.

The OFFICIAL script says the Snowspeeder was hit by a volley of laserfire. If you watch the film you hear the sound of the laser before it hits.
    Nuff said. Topic over.

And if we freeze on frame 138 we distinctly see...
