    REFERENCE: "Luke Skywalker is a nerd and Darth Vader sucks runny eggs" Big Trouble in Little China?"

    Regarding the title, above, his opinion of Star Wars is that it is "adolescent nonsense", lacking a "soul and core".
    Ellison is one of my favourite modern authors. He's the Bruce Lee of essayists, which translates into his extraordinary works of fiction. However, I'm quite aware that he is often withering in his criticisms.
    Has anyone else read this book?
    BTW, it's also available electronically.
    =========================
    He may be obscure for many of you; so, from his official web-site*, this is his professional biography:
    Harlan Ellison has been called "one of the great living American short story writers" by the Washington Post. In a career spanning more than fifty years, he has written or edited 114 books and more than seventeen hundred stories, essays, articles, and newspaper columns, and has created two dozen teleplays and a dozen motion pictures. He has won more awards than any other living fantasist. He has won the Hugo award eight and a half times (shared once); the Nebula award three times; the Bram Stoker award, presented by the Horror Writers Association, five times (including The Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996); the Edgar Allan Poe award of the Mystery Writers of America twice; the Georges Melies fantasy film award twice; two Audie Awards (for the best in audio recordings); and was awarded the Silver Pen for Journalism by P.E.N., the international writer's union.
    He is infamous (there's that adjective, again) for threatening a lawsuit against James Cameron for what he believed was a theft of his ideas from one of his teleplays, "The Soldier", in the opening scenes of 1984's "The Terminator". He won, out of court. That's a story for elsewhere.
    Star Trek fans may recognize him as the writer of the (Roddenberry heavily edited) OT episode, "City on the Edge of Forever":

    * Harlan has stated many times, in his infamously curmudgeony way, that he detests author-related technology, to the extent that he uses a manual typewriter, of the style that was common in offices of a century ago. Thus, his official web-site is not run by him.

    Opinions are like ... ummm ... well, you know where this is going. I personally find both shows have things to offer. But I wouldn't put any stock in his comments. After all, there's more than a few on here that speak volumes about how awful Star Trek is or Doctor Who is or Babylon 5 is...

    Wait...I was under the impression that the last one was a universal truth.
