    Huge plot inconsistency discovered!

Mark Hamill's height is 5'9''. Temuera Morrison (Jango Fett) is 5'7''. According to Lucas, clones of Jango Fett were around during ANH. This means that Luke was a little tall for a stormtrooper! Leia's joke at Luke's expense that he was a little short for Storm Trooper makes no sense! Mind blown! Sense of reality shaken!

Please help me explain away this plot inconsistency. I don't think I can enjoy the OT after discovering this massive PT/OT discrepancy!

You assume that they're Jango clones still in ANH.

Little-known movie-making fact: Morrison's height was stretched digitally to make him seem taller in the PT movies. Search your feelings; you know it to be true. You can go about your business. Move along.

This does settle my worries somewhat. I just hope no one expresses a contradictory opinion to yours. That never happens around here!:p

No, not ever. And anyone who says different is obviously wrong.

Wow. Thanks for sharing. I did not know that. Jango is my favorite part of that film.

I've actually had to remind myself of the respective actors' heights several times when thinking about this silliness

I think what Leia forget REALLY though

She was lying down and so looking up at Luke, due to both a bit of unstableness resulting in distortion of light caused by exhaustion and her torture and the fact that Luke was on a slightly elevated plane clearly made it such that Leia must have seen him as no more than 5'!

Because Lucas said so and made and altered the films to reflect it.

No he did not. Did he ever change the Storm troopers voices or their heights? No. His last thought on this was that they were not clones.

I gather that the OP is kind of joking around, but it's worth noting that movie characters are sometimes different heights from the actors who portray them. Obviously Elijah Wood, to name one extreme example, is not a meter high. And Stallone, Cruise and others stars routinely play characters taller than they are in real life. Also, the Stormtroopers are obviously not all clones of Jango by the time period of ANH. The 'Troopers on Tatooine and the DS were not re-dubbed by Morrison for the SEs or BRDs, so we can extrapolate logically that they are different individuals genetically.

    What else you got? :-B

Well now we finally know why the Empire swapped out clones for stormies... No-one could take clones seriously cause they were basically dwarves!*

*(Says the man who is even shorter. But not bitter at all, no sir)

[face_laugh] And I thought being 5'8 and having to get a chair to see the top shelves in my cabinets was bad! I can't even imagine the most fearsome army in the Republic being shorter than me. Let's just hope all the vehicles and stuff were custom built with 5'7" people in mind! There's nothing more annoying than working among heavy machinery that is all made with people 6ft+ in mind. Heck, I double up on the shoe inserts in my boots just to give my heal an extra 2 inches.

He had Jango bump his in AOTC to show where all the stormtroopers got that trait from in his words. Lucas also said for the 2005 dvd release he had the stormtrooper voices redubed so they sound more alike than before. So yes he did change the voices to better reflect they are clones, you two ignoring that he did doesn't prove anything. Pablo also said that the stormtroopers are clones and the different heights only proves the films were a product of 70s limitations and are just fan nitpicking in his words. There is even a 1978 Lucas film article that says Stormtroopers are clones, so stormtroopers are originally clones since the 70s despite predating Jango and the limitations of the 70s.

There's no question that the clones have been genetically modified. Maybe they threw in a few extra mods that they didn't mention (like making them taller).

David Prowse is five inches taller than Hayden Christensen, so we already know that Palpatine likes to upgrade people's heights. :)

The answer is obvious: standard stormtrooper uniforms include six-inch lifts in the shoes. Luke obviously removed them when he put on the armor.

Hey, it makes about as much sense as any other explanation.

Maybe all the troopers in the OT are 99 style deformed clones.

It would explain why they're all terrible shots, and are easily knocked down by small Ewoks. :p
